Draft Compensation for Failed Signing Topic

At what point will you receive compensation in next years draft, after you make one full price offer or if they reject the offer and ask for more?

In order to get compensation you have to offer their initial demands, and you have to wait for them to refuse your offer (either outright, or by raising their demand). The "I'm thinking about it" response does not trigger compensation. You do not have to re-offer at their raised demand level if that is requested.

If you picked the player in the first 3 rounds (not the supplemental picks), if he rejects your offer and you would rather just take the supplemental pick next season, then just do nothing. But that extra pick won't show up until next season.

Thanks guys, and @dedelman that was the answer I was looking for.

If/when you get the "I'm thinking about it" response, there's a way to re-offer and get them to accept, correct? Or does that only happen once they reject or ask for more money?

Nope, if they're thinking about it, you making another or different offer doesn't move anything along.

In fact, it resets (and thus slows) the whole process. You can only get them to accept once they ask for more money.

Thanks guys. I have a #1 overall pick who I just got the "I'm thinking about it" response from, so this is good to know!

Just to add that you must offer the full initial demand amount. Many seasons ago I had offered a pick about 95% of his asking price. He first was considering the offer then rejected it saying he wasn't interested in signing. I didn't get the compensation pick because I didn't offer the full amount.

This guy just upped his demand, and I can't remember whether it's the inbox message or the negotiation screen that's the key to getting him to sign.

OK so he upped his demand. If you want to sign him, meet it, and he will sign. I've never yet seen a player screw with you if you meet his second demand.

The point of the Inbox message is that if he outright REJECTS ("I'm going to finish school"), you will get the X next to his name in the draft screen, and you will not be able to negotiate with him from there anymore. When that happens you have to keep the Inbox message because the link in it will be the only way to get back to negotiations.

Do you get your prospect money immediately back when the draft pick refuses the offer?

Yes.
