Impact on batting order Topic

Does make up, temper, patience, impact where hitters have success in the lineup? Will a hitter with good splits (i.e. 86/81 and low make up) perform better in the 3 hole vs the 7 hole? Or does a hitter with good patience make a better lead off assuming split, eye, and contact are leadoff worthy?

Patience, makeup and temper have no bearing on in-game performance (other than temper occasionally getting your guy ejected). Patience and makeup mainly relate to a player's development, progression and regression depending on how you move him up and down in your organization, his ability to recover from injuries and his willingness to re-sign with you at the end of a contract.

Anyone else please disagree, but I don't think any of us usually discuss those things as impacting hitting performance, other than Temper factoring into hit by pitches.
Makeup usually factors into the player's development of skills when young, and decay of skills when old. Also recovery from injury; and many say likelihood of becoming a good possible Diamond in the Rough.
Patience factors into the player's willingness to stay with a team or seek free agency, and also has a bonus ability to avoid demotion penalty.

When it comes to my batting order I mostly go with on base percentage.

Agree. Just a couple of quick clarifications:
1) I don't think makeup has much to do with odds of getting a DitR-- but I do think it affects the magnitude of the ratings gain if the player gets one.
2) Low temper in a hitter-- below about 30-- is correlated with a high number of HBP, and it's potentially very high; the impact on OBP of temper = 0 is about equal to the impact of increasing eye by about 20 points.

I never realized #2. Checked my leagues all time records for HBP and sure enough all 5 seasons come from guys with 0, 1 or 2 temper. I also brought up a guy recently with 0 and 20 games on he already has 4 lol. I guess they have grudges with pitchers? Is that the reasoning?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure 0 temper is calm and 100 is a hot head.

From the FAQ: Temper reflects how well a player deals with spur-of-the-moment adversity such as being hit by a pitch or called out on strikes.

So if you compare it to Patience or Makeup, a player with zero means he can't handle setbacks. Therefore a player with zero Temper should mean a hothead.

Thanks Damag. Guess I was wrong. It had to happen at some point. I can't be right about everything forever.
