Round 1 Themes, 2020 Topic

Speaking of tinkering.... that 180M "variable cap" theme is madding. Really having a hard-time getting that 25th player in. I need some more plate appearances. I have enough for a $3.9 million player (assuming I draft < 200 PA's). But there aren't really any sub-200-PA guys that expensive and I hate leaving money on the table. So if I draft a player with over 200 PA, I only get $1.9 million to spend and the player quality drops significantly.

After tweaking players here and there to try get a roster I liked, I finally gave up and added a $4 million relief pitcher... so I probably have too many IPs and not enough PAs.

This was a brilliantly designed theme, ozomatli.
Something similar happened to me. I’m too stubborn to accept a decrease in quality in ABs, so I guess I’m gonna be having too many IPs and not enough ABs

Twice I entered a team and while putting my lineup together and re-adding up my team, I realized I was either severely under my cap or over my cap.

Definitely feel great about the team I have now though, which of course means it's gonna be terrible

The 90m is the one I’ve tweaked the most. Put it in and pulled them out at least a dozen times now.

$90M question I should probably ask now:

Can one of your position players who for some reason has a defensive rating at P have that rating at P be above D+? You can't actually see those ratings until you draft the team, and I just noticed it when looking over my team's fielding ratings. I have a position player rated C/C at P.

I actually had the same issue pop up, so I went back and looked, somewhere Ozo states that pitching defense is NOT a factor so you should be good.

He said it didn't apply to pitchers, but the theme rule says a hitter can't have the rating above D+ at any position. It's vague enough to be worth asking. I'd have to replace a player if it applied.

I'm going off this one. "Pitcher fielding ratings" would count for all players I would think.

For $90M cap, do pitcher fielding ratings factor in?
Nope

Sorry all — I was laid off a few days ago and then made a LinkedIn post about it that resulted in over 1000 interview requests, so I haven't been on WIS in a few days. Catching up on this thread now.

@redcped — NebHusker is correct, pitcher fielding ratings don't apply, so you're in the clear.

Thanks schwarze! Tried to keep it fresh with this one :)

I hope one of those comes through for you. Layoffs are never fun, but at least you're getting opportunities immediately.

Thanks! I think I am actually going to take a few months to explore startup ideas before going back on the job hunt, but yes, definitely reassuring to know that I'll have options when the time comes

Good luck Mike. This pandemic has meant the permanent closure of my restaurant and the layoffs of my employees. Cant make a living with no customers. I am too old to start over. Retirement is now a reality. Thank God for Social Security and lets all pray the morons in Washington don't get rid of that as well.

Yes, good luck to all! It goes without saying that a number of people here are likely struggling with this in many ways. Do not want to hijack the thread away from baseball (truly a blessed distraction from reality), but I wish all of you the best and if needed, a quick financial recovery.
