I've got a DiTR pitcher with 52 DUR and 49 STA. He's kind of good but not obviously great. He's in his last arb and I'd have to pay him like a SP to keep him. Any of you tried to use this kind of pitcher as a full time SP?

No, and I wouldn't even though it's intriguing.

You got 157 IP out of him last season as a reliever. Probably pretty high leverage innings. If you made him a starter, you could set him up a number of ways:
  1. PC 45/50, every third day. He won't have brutal in-game fatigue and you'll get probably about 190 IP out of him that are almost as good as the 157 you got as a reliever. But you'll screw with the rest of your rotation some.
  2. PC 65/70, every 4th day. That's also about 190 IP, and a little easier to work in; but the in-game fatigue will be real and you'll lose a couple tenths of a run in ERA.
  3. PC 95/100 as a regular rotation member. Super easy to manage but he'll set some sort of record for runs yielded in the 6th inning over a season.
Or just do what you did last season-- make him a SuA with a 25/30 PC and get solid, if not spectacular, control of the 7th and 8th innings. I think that'll work better all around.

Thanks dedelman... pretty much everything I've been thinking, and why I used him as a LR. But do I want that guy to be my highest paid pitcher on a rebuilding team? Not so much.

I'd keep him honestly. Use him as one of the options dedelman lined up above and most importantly let him walk after the season. With his overall he'll definitely command a Type A compensation pick, and if you're rebuilding there's a decent chance you could get a first rounder for him and one of the first compensation picks after the 1st.

Thanks for pointing that out... he actually comps really well with a Type A who's in the pool right now.

What do you guys think of this guy?

I picked him up in R5, Has very good stuff IMO just sucks that his stamina is so low. However, what interested me was that his Durability is pretty good. I put him on 10 PC and So far in ST he has thrown an inning each in back to back games and then needed a game off to get back to 100%. If he can give me 3 innings every 5 games i think I might have stolen a pretty good closer

Nice steal in my opinion. I would personally use him as SuA and let him come in to get 1-2 crucial outs with men on base. I think he’s wasted in a closer role with a 3-run lead and no one on base.

Id let him pitch 5 pitches max but he is very good and id find him a spot on the ml roster.

At what point in the coach hiring process will ML pitching coaches start accepting bullpen coaching roles? And how much money will it take?

It's right after whichever period the majority of coaches sign, 2nd or 3rd to last coaches signing period I believe. They'll accept half of asking.

Has there been an uptick in injuries? Or is it just my bad luck?

Thanks brianplath! And after that same cycle, will coaches also begin accepting level demotions for double their asking price? Do I have that right?

Yes, except it's 1.5x, not double. I've only ever succeeded with single-level demotions, though.

Need some input on a trade. I've actually had good success making trades in the past (getting better production than giving up), but this deal is hard to figure. I think it'd be a good deal in the long run, but I'm not totally sure why the other guy would make the deal. We are early in our season so, it's not like a deadline deal to put him over the top. I'm suspicious. :-) Thanks for any input.

You're trading away a premium Closer for a long reliever and a possible fifth starter. It would look like a salary dump, but the closer is making only 1.5 mil.

I can see why he's doing it.

(I'd veto it, but I know a lot of owners don't like when I do that.)
