#1 Hawaii (cimmy426) vs #2 LSU (oldwarrior) for the Allen natty tonight.

cimmy has done a very impressive job on the islands, won the NT two seasons ago.

Running a Zone as well.

Zone is like a magic Key you can rotate 5 guys without a foul trouble I have no idea though.

I think their is some commons area where people react to Hawaii winning. Hawaii in Football is decades ahead of Ecu and Ecu is in the 4th powerhouse in Nc the matter of multiple sports and one sport is astounding.

You can see how it becomes relatively easy to recruit at Hawaii once you get your prestige up to B+ or so. You are all in on Internationals, you do the trick to get INT scouting done as cheap as possible, and then everyone else knows you are all in and tend to back off the investment. Play zone, and it's no biggie to lose one of those all in battles once in awhile. It's actually not hard at all to be successful there with that strategy. I am not trying to diminish cimmy at all; he did it; he deserves the kudos.

i have no stake in the hawaii argument, but i disagree completely! everyone can go all in on internationals - there's a reason most people steer clear. i do think hawaii benefits a bit from everyone knowing they basically *have* to go for that international - where as any other opponent perhaps might back down. perhaps some even feel sorry for them - lol. but they also are frequently on multiple internationals, which is a very precarious situation. perhaps certain worlds with weak international competition, its not so bad - but still, any other team could go that same route any time, but they don't, because its such a tough road to hoe. its just so expensive! when you spend 75% of your budget on one guy and then lose the coinflip anyway... you tend to lose your love for international targets pretty quickly =) the folks that stay after them tend to be very well resourced programs and experienced coaches - i do find some softness in internationals sometimes - but i find the idea of confining myself to internationals + 1 hawaii kid every few seasons to be a very tough proposition. also... recruiting top internationals on a b+? count me out!!

granted - if you've been there - you have more first hand experience than me! but i also know many high end coaches who wanted to try their hand at the hawaii challenge, and i most of them walked away without the title. i'm even slightly impressed by folks who manage a final 4 there, i believe that is harder than a title at a prime d1 program.

You said it yourself; that's the key point: " i do think hawaii benefits a bit from everyone knowing they basically *have* to go for that international - where as any other opponent perhaps might back down." And then the other major factor is that so much of your scouting budget is spent on internationals, so you get down level recruits. It's hard to find all the high potential future gems internationally. But when you are scouting all of them, it's obviously becomes an advantage. If you have every other year of 5 schollies and 20k, it's pretty easy to get the two best internationals, when the other schools don't know if you will be able to go more than 15k on them, and so they fall back and HI can grab the top 3.
