just from seeing some progression on this end, it definitely feels like the server itself had some serious issues, not just the application (WIS/HD). all kinds of crazy stuff was coming back from the server and it was changing regularly - and was often lower level errors than application level issues would cause. it looked like they were rebuilding/restaging the server and running into a variety of problems along the way. there were all kinds of really weird UI display issues later on, once the server itself was functioning, that to me suggest some of the top level content was out of whack with the code that generates the pages that display it. it sort of felt like they had to start with an old backup and slowly piece it back together.
