I was a little surprised Ben took Dr J over DWade. Both very good choices at SG at this spot in the draft, but DWade can play minutes at PG also. Probably could have flipped a coin between those two and been just fine either way. These were the two I would have taken over Pippen at SG, btw.... mainly because we need a 5 season strech.
In this format, I had Dr. J significantly higher than Wade on my board. Wade is a great player, but I knew I wasn’t going to get him.

Wade was the player I would have taken if Ash had taken Erving. I have Erving higher. Much more minutes through all 5 seasons which I decided was a premium for me at the turn to give me an advantage later with lower minute players.

Longtallbrad is a legend, so he doesn’t need any feedback from me. But man, Rodman at the 3 and Wade at the 2 is going to make getting enough threes real, real hard.
You speak truth, brother. I can't argue with your perspective. And, I may have locked myself into a particular kind of narrative. And, golly, aren't we all just trying to have fun at the end of the day? (And by the way, just for shucks and giggles, what is my overarching strategy?)

Pippen and Kidd is a nice 2-way duo.

It’d be cool if at least a couple of owners in the draft sucked but here we are...

oh wait, are we supposed to be thinking that hard about this?
That is what I am thinking

yep, Hakeem and Dr. J are both players you might avoid in a regular draft league due to shooting efficiency, but in this format needing 5 solid seasons from a first rounder... Hakeem, DWade, and Dr.J were all clear top choices at that draft spot.

Klay and Oscar? Oh hell, no. Not in my strategy book... which means I'm probably going to get a hard lesson in balancing offense.

Maybe no one here sucks at drafting, but there's at least one of us prone to mistakes. Never done an ODL or 52, if that's the closest comparison, so I'm going to be 2nd-guessing myself a lot. It helps that I'm seeing guys picked that match up with my lists.

You might actually hold an advantage with that since you won’t be thinking of standard draft strategies and well, it’s not a standard draft

I agree that being in a prog mindset will be much more beneficial than the ODL or 52 ADP

I could be way off, but I don't totally get the concern with somewhat low minutes because without a cap - isn't it expected that in mid and especially later rounds you'll have access to pretty good back ups that have plenty of minutes. Then wouldn't the debate be whether a lower minute guy is better than a higher minute player and is it better enough over replacement minutes? I guess we'll see if I'm screwed later on....

I've got a few ideas that will either make me seem surprisingly competent or horrendously back-fire. It'll be fun either way.

NICE! I have a nay-sayer! Now things feel like a draft league.

Again, it's uncharted territory, so either thought process could be wrong.

My feeling is that the value over replacement player is going to be pretty drastically different, at least with the first couple of rounds. Five teams with the same roster, just different years... could run into some ****** situations. Also maybe not. It's all strategy. I know that I won't have to use multiple slots to back-up my PG now and can instead perhaps focus on getting some of those 1 or 2 year studs at another position now.

Basically, it's insurance... .and it might be unnecessary!

20. goetz93 - Scottie Pippen, Jason Kidd - So Kidd was the other guy I was really, really laboring between in pairing with Klay. In the end, he's just too inefficient offensively for my taste (with the exception of two EXCELLENT seasons - but they are low usg% so that would have been something I would have felt I had to address later). Let's talk about Kidd though: great defense no matter what season. Great defensive boards & assists. Some seasons he won't kill you with his usg+efg%, but some of them he will. I had five seasons picked out that I really liked, but the difference stylistically in two of them made me go elsewhere. I had Kidd as an early-mid 2nd grade. This is an excellent defensive, rebounding back court that has you covered on ast% and gives you some flexibility going forward.

Shhhhhhhh...this is why we aren’t going to be able to have nice things.
