"One of the major weaknesses of using a rubric like this and posting it on the forums is people can dick with you in the postseason my massively changing their tendencies if they have a versatile team. My Illinois team would be in your 3-2 -4 category but I would be totally comfortable taking 26 threes in a game."

I look at game log more than ratings, if i see a team that normally shoots 3 3FGAs but has some games at 15-18, I won't adjust so much. If you haven't shot any 3's all year, and are saving them for a game against me, then more power to you!

-1.5 in 3-2 is the same as 0 in press or man.

+1.5 in 2-3 is the same as 0 in press or man.
i am interested to know where you came up with the 1.5 number. That looks like a relic of a kid from ohio that went nuts.

I'm with Cub on having a rubric like that, it makes it simpler, but I dont think it is as effective. I won't go into my reasons because Cub lasid them out pretty well, but I can if you guys would like.

I've seen this on the forums a ton and was told this by mentors earlier in my career.

I think that’s an Only disciple #. I always thought he was wrong about that.

Like the settings “rubric”, this is a place to start, a decent rule of thumb, but as you say “it makes it simpler, but I dont think it is as effective”.

Here’s the thing about the zone, IMO, it’s hard to be wrong with your setting in the favorable direction.

The 3-2 is really good about lowering 3FG%. It’s very rare that I’ve played a heavy - setting and some team shot over it. One player , maybe, but a team almost never. I usually err on the side of - with the 3-2.

I play less 2-3 but in a similar case, teams don’t pound the rock inside on me when I play heavy +s.

The rubric, In my case, gives me a backbone to make decisions. In all honesty, I am always look for away to make the - a bigger absolute value to help with rebounding. I think the biggest mistake people make with zone is playing to high a setting. I look at a teams that play me and am just befuddled why the other coach didn’t go -4 or -5.
