Just curious if anyone knows how rare a no-hitter is. This evening, my man '65 Marichal fired a one hitter. His no no was broken up with 2 outs in the 8th by Ripken (Cal of course, Billy ain't breaking up anybody's no hitters).

I've played about 176,500 games and have recorded 2 perfect games, 41 no-hitters, and 24 combined no-hitters.

That's one every 2634 games or roughly one every 16 seasons.

Not that he's counting...

The only things I keep track of are my team names/records/playoff results, rosters of World Series/TOC champs, and no-hitters/perfect games. We're mostly all stat nerds here anyway so that shouldn't be surprising.

True dat

My only TOC win saw Jack McDowell take a no no into the 10th inning of the Finals Game 7. He was lifted for a PH, got a no decision.

I submitted it for Game of the Week. Didn't get posted. I never submitted another. Go figure.

I have a team who got no hit by Babe Ruth a couple weeks ago and took the loss and I won the game 1-0 after the Babe walked 4 consecutive batters in the 2nd inning

that seems like a pretty good definiton of perfect

six per million

what could be rarer than that

One thing to note is there is a glitch in the SIM's ability to identify a perfect game...I have seen it happen more than once. A pitcher throws a no-hitter and allows no walks, but one or more batters reach on an error. The Player of the Game box at the bottom of the boxscore will say "Joe Shlabotnik throws a perfect game."

Best day of Charlie Brown's childhood.
