Inels leave after 4th year?? Topic

I learned something new today... ineligibles can just randomly decide to leave after their 4th year for no apparent reason? I asked WIS why this guy was listed as Sr/5 in the 4th year, and it turns out he just decided to leave early. Weird!

i was not under the impression that *anyone* can leave randomly. i believe there has to be a reason. acceptable reasons for this guy to leave are 1) failing to make grades as a juco (not the problem here, 2.7 i think is the limit, although perhaps im wrong and/or this has changed), and 2) being unhappy with the minutes/starts and complaining. he played a good bit, im not really sure what seniors complain at, but i'm guessing that had to be it. of course getting cut and failing to meet promises are other ways but those don't seem to be in play here?

it is possible jucos have different rules now than i'm used to. in 2.0 a juco most certainly could not leave randomly :)

13 minutes per game (+1 WE), started as a sophomore, 3.2 GPA....

Not sure why he would leave.

ah, i missed the +1 WE. that is uncharacteristically low - just a bit - but consistent with a guy barely complaining. may be worth sitemailing the coach and asking him, but im guessing the guy barely complained and the coach blew him off and the dude hit the 1% roll to leave.

WIS seemed to think that the fact he was an inel who completed his 4 years gave him a higher chance to leave.

Never seen that before, and also guessing it was a 1% or so chance to leave.

i could buy that. i can't really comment on that at all i guess, i just think the dude was complaining and if he didn't, it would have been 0% to leave. not really sure how seniors calculate their odds of leaving if they do complain, players leaving after complaints who didn't have promises are just so rare, i have no idea what the formula might be!

my question would be: "why is he listed as Sr/5?"

seems to me like he wouldnt be SR5 until after rollover.
am i missing something?

wonder if he was listd as SR/5 all season?
and working backwards was he listed at Sr in season 115?
and was he listed as Jr in season 114?
that would mean he was listed as So in season 113 when he sat out.

doesnt make sense to me

Is there any way to confirm he wasn't an inel JUCO? Are there inel JUCOs?

I've always heard this was possible, but I've never seen it happen.

in the first season he actually played, his WE went from 63 to 58 (24 games played, 5.8 mpg) seems odd to me that would have an impact 2 years later after good PT and WE growth those next two seasons

FAQ says

At DI schools, the player will only have 3 years of eligibility (depending on their collegiate gpa, they may be granted a 4th year of eligibility if they maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher) - in both situations, if they choose to play their 4 year of eligibility they will be playing as 5th year Seniors.

i think there has always been a chance that they leave after playing 3 seasons - I have seen it happen

NOT at all often

I dont recall getting SR5 designation in 4th season at school (3rd yr playing) maybe that has changed or something else was up...

Agreed that the "5th/Sr" is the weird part here. That's what makes it odd. It should just say Sr.

I my 500 or so seasons I’ve only seen one ineligible leave after 4 years and it’s because his cumulative gpa was under 2.7.

I asked WIS and they said:

"When a non-qualifier decides not to return, we bump up his class to Sr/5 so the system knows to move him off of the team. The team also gets the extra scholarship opening and resources to go with it. He will not be on the team next season."

I said:

"Why has he decided not to return even though he has a good GPA?"

They said:

"Players may decide to leave if they don't like the playing time they're getting or the team situation."

First time I've seen anything like that. So I guess it looks like a visual glitch but its actually for internal coding purposes.
