Has anyone else noticed a lot of new users lately, both in the forums and in leagues?

Seems to me like some of the changes seble and the WIS team have been making lately are yielding some positive results

With that said, hi everyone, I look forward to competing against you and hopefully crushing your World Series dreams :)

But I'm happy to be a resource to anyone who has specific questions about strategy — feel free to sitemail me and I'll do my best to respond quickly

whats the number one secret to getting over 500

Over .500 as a newb I've heard is next to impossible; there's definitely a Rookie Ball/AA/Majors learning curve feel to this. My 1st team is taking its expected lumps, but I've learned a lot already and have a 2nd team starting next week I'm expecting better things from. And then it's Gm1 test 33-1 happened !

To ozomatli, my guess is a lot of the recent additions play fantasy summerball and even old-timer elsewhere, but that's not happening this year like it usually would be right now. Bored one day, I jumped on Google, and here I am. Very happy to have found this despite staring at a projected 100 losses and am trying to tell others about it.

There's potential for a much deeper daily dive here that I compare to upgrading from checkers to 3-D chess, if you choose to want to be that involved. I hope that doesn't drive many away after a season or two of confuzzlement and poor performance. I just discovered the potential for daily if not game-to-game fatigue micromanaging, which could be occasionally bothersome if the choice is between that and making a ham samich.

But I'm here to stay, and would soon like to start investigating themes. Thanx for the offer to further reach out; I'll try not to be bothersome.

Open leagues are a tough place to start, in my opinion. Some owners prey on newbies in OLs by taking advantage of their knowledge on trades and AAA players.

In general I'd recommend starting with restrictive themes, with no AAA. This way, you're basically betting that the theme restrictions leave people on an even playing field and it's harder for new owners to make "obvious" mistakes.

Alternatively, high cap themes (200M+) can be a good place to start because there are fewer players that are valuable or cost enough, so owners are on more even footing than they would be at lower caps where strategy is in the "majors" level, to use your analogy.

FWIW, I do no micromanaging at all and rarely look at how my teams are doing outside of pitcher fatigue (even that is usually daily at best). When life gets in the way for too long that can certainly lead to underperformance (especially re: pitcher fatigue) but if you set your settings right to start the season it's definitely not a prerequisite for success.

Open leagues aren't easy. Good owners miss the playoffs. Discodemo missed the WC spot the other day. There are some very good open league owners that enter several teams daily. A lot of copycat teams, but some are very creative. Using unconventional rotations, really being good at working AAA and fatigue. Good strategies are a plenty. The TOC's must be nasty.

OL teams usually get put into the 90M or 100M TOC due to the added cost of AAA players, so they usually don't do well.

How’d you find it? I’ve seen advertising for other Sim sites, but not this one. I got introduced by my uncle, and idk if I would’ve found this site from a simple Google search.

On page2 of a baseball SIM search and was only looking for old-timer. I told a Scoresheet group about it and so far at least 4 say they're checking it out including 1 who has a couple tests in and we're doing an OL together in a few days. I hope a few masters are there so I can learn more, which I hear is quite likely as a lot of trophy hoarding goes on against no-nothing newbs. So maybe word of mouth is where it's at. I'd never heard of this before.

I think that their is a simple answer to the increase of newbee's like me. No roto. I would suggest to the owners/managers of this product to aggressively recruit roto people by getting on their sites like CBS or ESPN.
