I have noticed on a few of my teams that Position Player Player Rest does not appear to be operating properly.

In one case, a ML player was playing past the Rest setting.
I double checked the Edit Players page and Management Console - and it seems to be in order, but was letting the player play out.

In another case recently, when I promoted Minor league players to ML, their player rest level was very low already.
I do not usually look at minor league lineups so I wasn't aware.
Again, checked the settings and everything seems to be in order.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Yes. It does this when there is not another player at his position on the roster.

You have to look at the Player Rest screen for each level to ensure that there will be a backup available for each position.

Also, make sure that you don't have the same player listed for multiple positions on the player rest screen.

This is a mind-blowing development...but it seems to answer a lot of questions that I have had for awhile about why my players might be playing past their Auto Rest setting. Thanks!

Thanks for the answers.

This does seem to solve the case for me as far as I can see.

I was under the impression that even if a position did not have a backup for Player Rest/Defensive Replacement the Simulator picked the next appropriate player. (i.e. if I have 12 Left Fielders on a team, it will still field a team.)

Regarding multiple positions on the player rest screen:
How is this different than a player having multiple assigned positions?
Also, I read a forum post describing about if you still want to keep your best players in the game in certain situations (Pinch Hitting, Double Switch, etc) you need to utilize the Player Rest feature properly by assigning multiple positions.

I am in the practice of mirroring Player Rest/Defensive Replacements - but maybe that isn't the best way to do things?

Honestly, what I do when a player is getting tired at the minor league level is change another players primary position to match that position. This seems to do the trick.

But I don’t put as much effort into the minors as some other owners. I make sure that my team is full, rested, and that my prospects are playing. Other than that, simmie can take the reigns.

What you do by changing another player's position is what I thought the sim would do if the main player has reached their auto rest level.

The sim coach doesn't have nuance or instinct. The good is that you can instruct him exactly what to do. The bad is that you have to, depending on the level of control you want, tell him exactly step-by-step what you want to do.
One of the first things learned was that if you put the sim in control of a team he might bench your prospects and play older backups just because they have higher overall ratings.
The sim coach, left on his own, will only do whatever it takes to win the game that day.
