Worst coach to win a title? Topic

Curious if someone that isn’t consistently great caught lighting in a bottle for a season. I know how hard it is to win one so just curious.

Can I claim "worst coach" to win back-to-back national championships?

Are there any coaches with a worse winning percentage in HD (68.1%) who have won back-to-backs?

You win more than 1 you have to be pretty darn good. Back to back is especially tough. That’s like picking the ugliest super model.

I got lucky and won a title on the back of this guy in D3.

It takes a D1 level stud to win a D3 title for me. Haha.

Can I also nominate myself? #humblebrag

how the hell does that guy get passed over and make it to d3... its not like he hit +50 on every green, he looks like a really solid recruit for lots of d1 teams. wow.

I think the biggest reason he went unnoticed is because he was "D2 projected". I didn't have any competition from D1's. Only 1 D2 human made a push for him.

How tf is he D2 projected? Looks like he had really decent starting ratings as well...

And tj, how are you going to say you're a bad coach when your RPI the last 6 years in Smith is 9, 7, 3, 3, 5, 3.

I've got a great team history for you guys.

Not only a title, but a D1 title at Northern Arizona! Didn't make any other S16s in over 25 years there, and hadn't won an NT game for 16 seasons previously. And there was some luck here (N. Arizona was vastly less talented than the #1 overall seed Texas they played in the NC game and the Illinois team they beat in the E8), but they were seriously talented. Finished with #2 RPI and went 15-1 in the Big Sky (which at the time was Wooden's 2nd/3rd best conference).

Insane SF, Great Big, Useful 1 WE Freshman, Defense Heavy Big were 4 legit studs, and they were surrounded by a ton of mediocre ath/de focused guys and this okay scoring guard.

Not sure why he was projected as D2. I was super excited when I found him because I thought I had a decent chance to get him.

I may not be the worst coach but I am good at scheduling SIM teams in non-conference to artificially inflate my RPI and there are 5-6 solid humans in my conference at any given time that help keep it up. I learned how to schedule from the0nly before he went off the reservation. So, take the RPI numbers with a grain of salt.

Me. 521 seasons, 1 title. That's a .0019 Championship to season ratio.

They were all my players, made up of SO and JRs. The following season, with 11 of the 12 on the roster coming back, I was 32-0 and lost by a point in the Elite Eight. Other than this 1.95 season stretch where I had a 62-game winning streak, I've been pedestrian.

D3 Naismith 67 seasons, 46% NT win, 1 NT

If we're just talking about tactics and strategy I consider myself horrible

Dang, I'm only like the 6th coach to claim they didn't deserve their title(s).
I won't 4/5 seasons in Crum D3, and now I feel like the alternate universe Peter Parker.

I'm not here to talk badly about anyone else!
Actually, let's shout out theriddler who went some ungodly number of seasons of being elite before finally winning a title in Rupp.

That very reason is why I scout a handful of D2 players every year, just in case. No way that guy should have fallen to a D3 team but serious props on getting him!
