Given the state of things in the country right now, it feels appropriate to dust off this thread. I'd love for it to become a positive place again, where we can just hang out and chat and not feel the weight of the pandemic and the social unrest surrounding us.

So I ask again, as I did back in September, (which feels like a decade ago now): How are you?

Feels like forever ago! I’m good. My school year is coming to an end and I’m allocating my productive time to an internship I landed and to preparing for the college applications process. How’re you Pallas?

Where are you applying? I only applied to three schools: Southwest Minnesota (I got in), Oklahoma State (I got in and attended), and Arizona (I didn't get in).

I'm well. On a new diet, which sucks, but I'm hoping it'll help me shed the pounds I've put on the last three or so months. And my brother is waiting on his COVID test results. He got exposed to it while on the job. He doesn't have any symptoms so we're all hoping he's good.

Just get people to start taking note of high prestige D1 coaches who repeatedly "forget to renew," then only reclaim their job after the first cycle has passed. It's an easy pattern to spot.

The system tells "forgetful" coaches whether anyone else has applied for their team, so they'll know when they have to jump back in. Seble is right, he designed it to be easily abused.
also, wouldn't the pattern need to be that the coach in question doesn't get the job back until jobs period day 2? this might have changed as well, but if i recall correctly, you can't get a job on day 1 in a competition - it gives people at least that whole first day to apply, before anyone is awarded the job.

i recall many coaches forgot to renew before the auto renew feature was added, but i still see it occasionally (definitely feels like less but i have small sample size in 3.0 still). but it felt like most realized pretty quickly when they went to log in and their team wasn't there. im guessing a lot of those 'oops i forgot' guys get their job back that first day uncontested, and it really rare for coaches to consistently 'forget to renew' and also 'not notice it for a while'. seems like very few legit cases of that.
Man, I don't know about not "consistently" forgetting to renew but I had three different coaches in three different worlds in the last month (roughly) who "forgot to renew" and contacted me about getting there teams back. I was able to work with CS on one of those teams and took another team while it was still during the job apps period, but the other two didn't even notice until after the season had begun. I've since moved on from one of those other two and the original coach got his job back and I'm going to do the honorable thing and move on after the season to allow the third coach to try to reclaim his old job as well.

Again, don't know how rare or common it is, but it's happened to me involving three teams/three different coaches/three different worlds in less than a month and a half.

I’ve got a list of 20 I’ve still gotta cut down (hopefully the virtual tours I do in the next couple weeks help), but right now my favorites are Duke, Michigan, USC, and MIT (probably in that order as of now). Wisco is cool too, my mom went there. That’s up there as well. I’ve visited all of those except USC, but I’ve done a lot of research on USC compared to other schools I haven’t visited. I still have to visit most of the schools on my list though so it might totally change. I probably won’t get to visit before applying, so I’m gonna take the Hoops Dynasty D3 recruiting approach of going wide net and seeing which schools I get into and visiting after, lol. I likely want to go to a great school that has the college experience too, but idk, we shall see.

Congrats on your diet! I’m a pretty skinny kid, and I’ve been working out a ton during quarantine and it’s a great feeling. If it hasn’t yet, the diet will feel that same reward soon.

Good luck with your bro. Hope all is well.

Wow. That's a pretty impressive list of schools there, congrats. I did a lot better in college than high school; I was lazy in high school, playing video games and hanging out with friends instead of doing homework or studying. My time at OSU was great, and I earned two degrees, but I wish I had given myself more options. So good on you for having some great options. I'd go to USC for LA alone, but that's just me. :)

Keep us updated as you go through the process.

Things here in Hilliard, Ohio are going good. Our community swimming pool couldn't open because of COVID so we put a ten foot pop-up pool in for our son. I tore my MCL playing basketball at the beginning of March and have just started doing agility drills. It really sucks not being able to go 100% but at 50 with three knee surgeries under my belt I have to change my workouts. I'll be back on the court, though. No Plan B.
I picked up a rebuild in Phelan D3 and I'm pretty excited. Salisbury University is about to blow up!!!! Three open scholarships turned into 7 new players...once those IQ's line up it's on!!!
I hope everyone is doing well, healthy and safe.

Paul

Agreed, very impressive list. Had a friend from high school that went to MIT (back in the early 90's). Cost of living there is outrageous as I understand. LA, uggh, you can keep LA. Not a fan of big cities. As a Duke fan since 1985 and someone who went to high school about 30 miles from there (used to go watch the Durham Bulls play all the time when I was a teen), I'm a little biased as to which school I would choose. I was accepted at UNC-Chapel Hill but being a Duke fan I just couldn't force myself to attend the enemy school. Didn't really want to go there anyway but I applied and got accepted more to **** off the rich, preppy kids who wanted to go there but couldn't get accepted. And boy, were some of them ******, heh heh!!

Yes, as Pallas said, keep us posted and congrats to you on even having the option to go to such prestigious schools!! From reading some of your posts, you're obviously a very intelligent and well grounded teenager. Props to you and to your parents (operating under the assumption that they are still both alive and involved in your life. My apologies if they aren't) for doing such a great job raising you right. I weep a little less for the future....

i think we were really talking about the cheating side, people trying to get the extra money for session 2, and i was kinda saying you have to battle for the job to get the money... and that if there really are folks forgetting to renew that often, *and* they aren't getting those jobs back till day 2, it would be mighty suspicious. once it happened with the same coach twice, its pretty sketchy IMO. luckily that has been fixed and is all moot now.

still, that doesn't help with the rash of folks forgetting to renew for other reasons! the situation you described in that other thread was a little ridiculous, i've moved for coaches who forgot to renew, but it was never after a whole season... and nobody ever messaged me ~10 days after renewals to ask. i applaud your efforts there!

Thank you guys very much. Very kind words. I do owe most of it to my parents, I am very grateful for what they have done for me. We'll see what happens and where I end up getting in and I'll update throughout the process. It's kind of a crapshoot after a certain point so I'll be happy wherever I go.

I'm from Chicago, so the big city of LA doesn't daunt me too much. I like that USC isn't like NYU, for example, meaning it has it's sectioned off sorta campus, if you know what I mean. One of my early decisions for evaluating schools was that I wanted a campus, which took schools like NYU out. Just a personal preference.

And about what you said earlier, I was similar freshman year. I had a pretty tough transition from grade school since I had a lack of good study habits, and I just would procrastinate a **** ton. I still procrastinate sometimes obviously, but I try to live by the "work hard, play hard" saying. I study hard during the week and then party hard/have fun on weekends. The transition happened freshman year for me because I had this eye infection and had to miss a lot of school, so it was almost a blessing in disguise.

I'll keep you guys updated, this year is gonna be unique for applications because corona, so it will be interesting. Thanks again for the kind words.

Let me know if you choose Duke, I'll take you out for a beer when you get here........of course, it will have to wait until you're legal
I would like to officially extend the same offer to you if you happen to choose MIT...as I think you know, I'm from MA and would be interested in finally meeting in person after the conversations we've had via sitemail etc!

Given the state of things in the country right now, it feels appropriate to dust off this thread. I'd love for it to become a positive place again, where we can just hang out and chat and not feel the weight of the pandemic and the social unrest surrounding us.

I weep a little less for the future....
emy, where did you go to high school?
Garner. Was a year ahead of Donald Williams, who won the MOP of the Final Four in 1993. Played pick-up games with him several times (I played baseball in high school). Nowhere near as impressive as your Chris Paul story but hey, I've gotta take what I can get, ha ha!!

Sorry, just saw this Bruins and Matt. I will for sure be accepting your offer if I go to one of those places!
