What is "misgendering"?
Never heard of that legal term.
Please define it.
Its being a dick. Don't be a dick.
Can we stop with the silly?

I'm quite serious.
I live in a very rural area.
We haven't had discussions over laws like this C - 16 thing.

Just exactly WHAT is misgendering?
Legally, by definition.

Please explain the legal meaning of the term.
Laws have consequences.
The verbiage, the definition of words are important.
What exactly is misgendering in law?
The way C-16 is that it protects against hate speech; basically you can't call for genocide or discriminate against people for their race, gender, or sexuality. In 2016/17, they amended it to include gender identity. The point is that you aren't supposed to be able to advocate for killing all trans people. Jordan Peterson and other right wingers make a huge thing about how you could go to jail for accidentally calling someone a gender pronoun that they don't want; for instance, someone could want to be called "he", and you call them "she" and get sent to jail for it. Unfortunately, such a case has never happened, and most legal experts agree that it's not ever going to happen.

Misgendering is an act of bigotry. Pure and simple. Maybe not on a board like this, but in the everyday world you should never assume the gender of the person you are speaking with. It takes no time at all and can save a lot of hurt by just asking a person their preferred pronouns.
You seriously don't think making "What pronoun should I use when addressing you?" the first thing you say to a person isn't going to **** many of them off?
If so, you really are incredibly clueless and really need to take a step out of your FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR left Liberal bubble, into the real World.
Yes, you actually should. I literally did it to coreander. It's not difficult.

If you don't want to say it right away, you can call them "they" or use their name instead for a while.

Every email I send I sign it with my preferred pronouns, it is so easy to do :) Not to brag, but Elizabeth Warren does the same!
That's great I guess. Once everybody in the world has received an email from you then everyone will know how to refer to you without irritating your sensitive ***. But what do folks do when they run into you on the street? How do they know what to call you then?

And, one question.
Why are you so special that you get to demand we use a specific set of pronouns to refer to you?
And why do you get more than me? I only get him, or he, or occasionally the ugly ****** with the pretty woman.......... lol

TY for responding.

I'm still confused though.
I don't believe it's legal NOW to "call for" or "advocate" genocide against folks, is it?
Sure should'nt be.
We done that ourselves and I thought we had learned better now.
And discrimination is well codified in law, BUT there were (originally) limitations within the Law that left some groups unaddressed.
However, I think the intent is rather clear. Language modifications to ensure we include legitimate groups often harassed for WHO they are seems logical and proper.

BUT, in LAW, the language used is everything!
I'd have to read the verbiage as it is written to determine if this is even an issue worth worrying about.

Certainly trannys (some DO prefer that term to others) and other "people with differences" shouldn't be legally discriminated against or subject to genocide within our National Laws.

Sure. I would suggest reading C-16, and then read some legal experts opinions on what specifically the bill would allow.

Why didn't Obama fix this when he was in. He coulda' done anything the first two years when the beer summit was a thing.

Come to think of it...he didn't get anything passed. Just signed executive orders. SAD
