About that Low D1 idea.... Topic

Man, I don't know if I can do it. I mentioned I was going to join a mid major type of D1 team when Rupp opened up. I'm eligible for every open school except B+ Notre Dame, but I'm just so not thrilled with picking a random school that has a low baseline when I have other options.

I know the team name is just a name, but I have no problem picking a random school from D2/D3 because in a season or two, I'll have them as a contending team. But picking a buffalo or Chicago state or northern Arizona just is NOT intriguing for me at all. I don't know how some of you guys can talk yourself into doing it. (Unless there's a personal connection, alma mater or whatever)

I'm only going into my 4th season but looking forward to getting to DI at some point and taking over a mid major. But mid major basketball is what I grew up on. Perhaps there's a minority but I'd imagine there's others out there that prefer small DI teams, no?

What's wrong with Buffalo?!

Also, you mention low D1 in the title but then mid-major in your post. low D1 and mid-major are pretty different. A lot of mid majors are just as good jobs as teams in B6 conferences.

As with anything, it's personal preference. If you don't want to do it, then don't. Go for a B6 team that has a well known name.

I'm in Mt Washington. I know who he is. I'm a cincy guy myself. And let's change the tune a lil bit.

I've been talking with an established coach lately, and he's interested in gathering up some talent and trying to build a mid level D1 conference into something strong. The coach can mention his own name here if he'd like.

But if anyone is interested in joining us, feel free to write about it here. Not set on a location. Open to ideas, but we only have today basically to communicate about it. For THIS season. If interested shoot me a sitemail or post here. That way we can all know where we're going. Obviously it's not restricted to joining just this season. But it is jobs time if anyone is interested.

I'd like to go west or middle America. And to stay away from the east coast, out of respect for a certain group of coaches. You know who you are if you're reading this!

I love Low D1. The idea of building up a school that has never been relevant in a world into a B+ prestige school competing for Sweet 16s and star recruits with no help from baseline really appeals to me. Going from the bottom up is a bunch of fun and feels pretty good at the summit.

Also, low D1 I don't have to deal with my two biggest annoyances in the game which are (1) higher division teams you just can't compete with swooping in on your guys and (2) EEs.

I guess I should rephrase. I don't mean necessarily about the game part. I just meant as far as team surfing.... all of em look so uninteresting to me. Haha. Playing the game with one might be fun, I'll find out soon I guess.

Also for benis, to clarify... to me, if it's not a Big 6 school, i consider it Low D1 and mid major, all in the same.

I thought I did. It's Rupp.

And I still am not thrilled about picking a random team that is not exciting. But friends add to excitement. Now I've got myself, beachhouse, and another coach lined up to join. So should be more fun based off that alone.

Now to pick a conference

Are you there I take it? Will have to look into that. I consider you a HD friend. More the merrier

I'm there. Our current coaches including myself had a poor recruiting session, so you won't be starting off in that terrible of a position to begin with.

Well I guess I don't know what you're looking for then. Is it baseline prestige? Name recognition? Full and competitive conference? Location?
