It's fine, I read it once and appreciated it and moved on. I'm here to play sim basketball and that's it, but if Seble and the team felt like they had to say something then good for them and it's totally fine by me. Again, I'm just here to play sim basketball and a little paragraph message about current events isn't going to cause me to get angry.

I do have a message for the folks who think it's the end of the world that WIS dares to comment on this: If you are getting offended or are up-in-arms about a very generic and harmless message from the staff of a sports simulation website -- YOU'RE A SNOWFLAKE!
You do realize that it is your white privilege that allows you to "read it once and move on" right? I appreciate the sentiment of your post, but I must admit I am a little triggered by the tone and feel like you need to take a little more time reflecting on injustice and privilege in this society and how inaction (like yours) helps perpetuate it :)

Maybe the new website name should be Woke If Sports . seriously I love this site, but it makes me sad that we cannot escape the woke parade even here.
I'm really sorry that you have to put up with a bunch of corporations saying that they support equality. You truly are the victim in all of this.

I understand where you're coming from, but to be fair you don't know what I do outside of this site.

Professionally I work to elect candidates who are focused on bringing real change to this country -- WIS is the site I go to just to unwind a bit at the end of the day since campaigns are a really demanding and energy-draining field sometimes. I appreciated the message from WIS, and while I read it once and moved on that's only within the context of that specific message on this specific site.

I work day in and day out to help make this society a little more just, in my own very small way.

Thanks for doing that, by the way.

What do you believe qualifies as real change? I can tell you what I believe qualifies as real change: defunding the police.

This will likely be my last message on this thread because I use WIS as a place to escape politics since that's what my focus is 50+ hours a week this time of year.

I think that real change means police reform and police reform to me means: ending qualified immunity, ending the practice of giving military toys to local police departments, requiring police officers to be licensed (hairdressers in most states need a license why should police officers not have one?), racial bias training for all law enforcement agencies, banning chokeholds by police, classifying lynching as a federal crime, and require body cams/dashboard cams for police officers.

I am positive I am missing some policies I'd like to see enacted, but those are the top few things that come to mind when I think about it.

That's all for me, I gotta go think about how I'm gonna use my RS2 money for my LIU Southampton team -- lol. Have a great day everyone!

To me, these are solutions meant to appeal to moderate white liberals. What I think we need is a complete institutional teardown. Privatized prisons? No. All persons of color arrested on drug charges should be released now. We have to reimagine what it means to have a police force entirely (and none should have over 50% white men). Just my opinions, but I appreciate you sharing yours :)

Better (/any) crisis management training for police.

Right. Our 73% white country should have an absolute maximum of 50% white police.

Good luck with Wyoming.

Everything is college theory to them. A_B_G provides tangible actual ideas to implement for positive change and "that's too moderate, now listen to my pipe dream."

The point isn't that the message is wrong. It is the subtext of the existence of the message itself. Of course, saying racism is bad is not an objectionable statement. The thing is, I have been on this site for 17 years (17 years where a lot of crazy things have happened in the world) and there has never been a statement made like this on the front page. The existence of the statement implies that the statement is essentially timely right now, which is the crux of what people are arguing about. Most people, except the real crazies, know racism is bad, what they disagree with is the idea that it is somehow getting worse right now. A disagreement with the way the media pushes a narratives that divides people and creates dissension.

Lets say it was 1692 and we were in Salem. And our local post office put up a disclaimer that they think "witchcraft is bad. We want people to only be good to each other and not cast evil spells on people." The implication of the message is that witchcraft is being practiced to a degree that makes the warning necessary. A student of American history would be a fool to deny the existence of racism. But it is just as foolish to pretend that we are not living in an age where the fear of racism might not be equal to its actual prevalence.
6/24/2020 11:54 AM
Maybe just don't be divisive when someone says racism is bad. I think you are part of the problem. Just agree and you won't have to deal with divisiveness!
