dlchow....parker was on my short list...of course he was on everyone's short list. i had the horror of playing against him in a senior baseball league (over 30). I was in my early 30s. He was in early-mid 40s. I was playing second base. He was holding an aluminum bat. Our pitcher was bringing the heat at about 70mph. i slowly backed up until i could feel the right fielders breath on my neck. First AB, 99 hopper to me at 2b/right field. He didn't run. Easy out. Second at bat. High fly ball to right that traveled about one million miles. Never seen a ball hit farther. Also...bonus....he pitched against us. Thank God he didn't throw his hardest because he had a cannon. As i recall i didn't strike but must not have done anything significant cus i can't remember. Good times. He was fun to play against.

I feel like he was the most feared batter in the NL for a few years there. He and Jim Rice are the guys I think of together like that. Just beasts. They didn't walk a ton, and the sim doesn't love that era as much as others, but I would have been happy to land either of them in this draft for sure.

Agree, they both were dominant focused ballplayersI I remember my Granddad taking me to see the Pirates vs O's World Series when I was a kid and saw The Cobra warming up his howitzer in pregame at Three Rivers and threw from RF to the back stop on a rope. I have never seen anyone with an arm like that! it wasn't always accurate but man I can't think of another player I have ever seen that had that velo. he could run too especially at 6'5 ish at 220-230lbs!

at riverfront stadium i saw him hit the hardest ball i've ever seen. the ball got to its maximum height of about 12 feet quickly and i swear it was still at 12 feet and not descending when it hit the seats in right field. had to travel the 330+ feet in just a couple/few seconds. amazing.

A buddy of mine was the hitting instructor in Memphis for the Cardinals late 90's early 2000 (Boots Day) and when Parker has the hitting coach for the Cardinals he came down and i meet him twice. He was a class A A-HOLE. A lot of people don't know why he was fired from the Cardinals and what i was told is that he was stealing signed baseballs from Mark McGuire. Players would sign boxes of balls and give to the other players and he was found stealing McGuire balls in 1998......With that said, he was one of my favorites in the 1970's

Best throw i ever saw in person was Jack Clark with the Giants. It was at Busch Stadium and in the rightfield corner and a bullet came out of the corner and threw Jimmy Dwyer out at the plate. 2nd best was Ellis Valentine throwing out Tony Scott at 3rd base from rightfield corner.

I saw Jack in Memphis a few times just a few years ago at the Redbirds game and he looks now like he could be in the Sopranos as an actor!! dressed all in Black lots of gold and the slick back black hair and the Elvis sunglasses. what a character! lol

Ok,Ok, i know that this is name dropping again on my part.....but....A friend of ours is Mike Henneman and i remember him telling us that in 1988 when Jack Clark went to the Yankees he was walking around spring training with a bat in his back pocket sticking straight out and no glove because he came to hit he said. First year as a DH and told he would not see the field. Mike said he looked like a stud!
