Honestly, no. I'm not worried about that at all. I don't think local government/police would allow that to happen anywhere, much less in Portland. Just because they're choosing to take the more politik route and not publicly denouncing federal agents from acting off of Federal property doesn't mean they aren't pushing back against such actions behind the scenes. I highly doubt they're just ignoring anything that looks at all like an abduction.

As to the deaths we were talking about yesterday... I'm still not totally convinced that the number of deaths documented tells a meaningful story. But let's say it is. If it's done by white supremacists and not undercover Federal operatives, it's still tragic, but it's not surprising. There are violent white nationalists in the United States. That's not new news. One could argue that we have amongst the fewest such we ever have. Political leaders in the South were frequently not-entirely-secretly KKK leaders as well through the first half of the 20th century. If the Federal government is secretly taking out protesters, that's new (at least in the post-Cold War United States) and very scary. Nobody has the power to push back against that. I just don't see any evidence of that.

But if white supremacists were taking out protesters, you'd probably want the police to
A) Wear nametags so you are easily identifiable
B) Don't publish the names of the people taken in
C) Actually make arrests and work within the law instead of dropping protesters off randomly after getting IDs

Wouldn't that make more sense?

Also, I haven't had a satisfactory answer for why the feds/police are still engaging protesters on the streets. If you want to protect property, protect property. Why aren't they guarding stores and courthouses? Why are they on the streets? We know that curfews don't work. The specific explanation for why they are in Portland seems to be graffiti and a fence being taken down.

If they want the protests to die down, the LAST thing they should be doing is fighting the protesters more. Either the Trump admin doesn't actually want law and order and safety on the streets, or they are completely incompetent at leadership generally.

You know this, but just to further point it out, Trump is clearly trying to provoke or instigate a fight with the protesters.

All of those things would be vastly preferable. And I agree - there is no reason for active engagement of peaceful protesters if they aren't breaking any laws. Frankly, even if they are breaking some misdemeanor laws in reasonably benign ways. The right to political protest is a fundamental protection under the 1st Amendment.

I just think it's a big, big, big, big, big leap from any of this to the idea that the Federal government is creating lists of protesters to either A) kill them or B) round them up in concentration camps. I don't see either of those things happening.
