Rules:
- We will have a 5 round draft. An owner who is not part of our league will generate a random draft order for us. In each round you must pick a 5-year period of a specific franchise (for example, 1981-85 Royals or 1899-1903 Braves or 2015-19 Rays). Your 5 seasons must be consecutive.
- Each 5-year franchise period is exclusive. If I pick the 2015-19 Rays, no one else can pick any 5 year period of the Rays that includes ANY of those seasons. So someone else could pick 2010-14 Rays, but 2011-15 Rays would NOT be allowed.
Straightforward so far? Good, glad you’re still here. But we’re just getting started.
3. At the end of the 5 rounds, the following must be true for each owner:
- You must have chosen 5 different franchises (you can’t have 2 Yankees or 2 Rockies, etc.)
- You must have 2 from group 1, 2 from group 2, and 1 from group 3.
- You must have 5 different, completely non-overlapping, 5-year periods.
Please read and re-read those three requirements as often as necessary
4. So you will have 5 sets of franchise-seasons from which to build your final roster.
And that’s the final catch: you must roster exactly 1 player from each of the 25 franchise-seasons you chose in the draft.
5. To reduce the “luck of the draw” in getting a high first round pick, the draft will proceed as follows: 1-24, 24-1, 24-1, 1-24, 24-1. So teams that get a late first round pick will draft early in rounds 2, 3, and 5. Please only join this league if you are comfortable with this drafting scheme.
6. If at any time an owner makes a drafting mistake, that pick will immediately be invalid, and that owner will drop to the end of the current round. What qualifies as a drafting mistake? Anything that doesn’t comply with the above rules. For example, you draft a franchise you’ve already selected, or you draft a 3
rd franchise from group 2, or you draft a 5-season period that overlaps with a period you’ve already drafted, or you post a 6-season run (2014-19) instead of a 5-season run (2015-19).
7. I don’t know if this is even possible, but just in case. In the event that an owner gets boxed into a corner and is unable to make a 5
th round selection that complies with the above rules, in lieu of a 5
th franchise you will be required to roster 5 players (totaling at least $10M in salary) from the 1899 Cleveland Spiders. So draft carefully.
