Only 10 years? I don't remember Illinois EVER being "A+" good. So I agree. The fact they're an A+ is a crime against basketball fans everywhere. At least with a team like UConn, who isn't elite now, they seem to have some random peaks every now and then.
I remember like 2 Illinois seasons that were good. In all my 39 years. And because of how long ago it was, I can't really even remember when those 2 seasons were played.
2000-2005 we were really really good. A couple buckets from undefeated national champs.

Looking back, I remember that 2005 team. Very solid. Also feels like that was the 80s! Haha. Even with that era being pretty good for Illinois, they haven't always been good, before and after that. And at the time baselines were put in play, in my opinion, it's kinda easy to give A+ to the Duke, UK, UCLA, Kansas, etc. I still feel like personally Illinois is a tough A+ to hand out.
A decent comparable example is Michigan. They won the title in 89 I think it was. Fab Five came thru in 92 and made two title games. And they also had a knock off low budget fab five type of group, that followed the originals shortly after (Robert Traylor, Maurice Taylor, Louis Bullock, and juco Brandon Hughes!). That group never did much anyways. But my point is, as far a prestige goes, I feel like it's supposed to be based on the the depth and consistency of a program. Whenever HD put these baselines in play (some of you probably know exactly when. I do not. But I'll estimate it was in the 2002 to 2004 range), Michigan surely started to fade by then, but they had a nice decade prior.
So it's odd to me that a Michigan is a B after fairly steady success in those recent years. Compared to Illinois having a high peak but maybe not as much consistency.
Like someone else mentioned, Wake Forest could've been an A+ using the logic they used in giving Illinois an A+. But I'm just rambling. Overall the baselines aren't horrible for a game that has outdated variables. Illinois just seems to be the stand out. But this leads me to the topic of my next forum thread.......
