Our league had its draft today... the supplemental picks were done after the regular draft (for example, my 1st round supp pick occurred at pick #815, and naturally the player drafted is complete garbage). Ever seen this? Why would the draft suddenly change? WHO'S IN CHARGE HERE!??!?!?

This is really bizarre. Why would the draft code suddenly go wrong? It seems highly likely that someone was trying to "improve" the draft code behind the scenes, and whiffed... which also means that someone is probably making changes to other parts of the code and not telling users.

What's the most picks you've ever seen in a draft? I had 6 comp A's and 1 Comp B's in all the way mae and now I'm sitting on a ridiculous draft capital:
  • 38 picks total
  • 10 of the first 58, including 6 in a row from 40-45
  • 16 in the top 123
Considering the draft is my favorite part of the game, I'm ecstatic lol
I have never had that many picks. That is pretty awesome. I assume this goes back to some of your other posts regarding DITRs and how they can lead to many comp picks.

I have had a handful of comp picks, but most were TypeB as opposed to TypeA. I hope, for your sake, that the draft pool has some depth. I have learned that timing is huge in this game when it comes to the draft. I have had seasons where I had a few comp picks and my draft class was HUGE. I have had seasons where I had a bunch of comp picks, but the draft pool had no depth so I got a bunch AAAA or minor contributors at the MLB level.
I’ve got a couple DITRs that will be comp picks soon but none have ran their course yet. Happened to be 3 guys with expiring contracts I traded for last season and a few other guys acquired through free agency/draft.

This is my first season with 20/20, so the class is pretty great. Hoping a stud or two falls to me, so we’ll see
I do that when I can as well -- find the type A/Type B type of guys in a contract year and trade for for them in their contract year so your team gets the Comp pick. I have not done it lately because people are not willing to part with them unless I pay a pretty penny. But, it's a decent strategy.
I finally got to 20/20 so last season I actually traded prospects (nothing too crazy) after the season for an expiring contract Comp A guy (this team went heavy INT so didn't always sign his picks anyway). Never played a game for me but landed me the #28 pick lol.

Had a superstar catcher fall to me, probably because he has probably won't sign/mother consultant. I budgeted 12 mil just for the draft but now I'm having to move things around a little to say the least. If I can end up getting him to sign though, would come away like a bandit.
Timing and time are so huge in this game. The timing of having comp picks -- is the draft pool have depth. Timing of having a high pick -- are there some generational players at the top of the draft. The timing of having a huge budget in prospect payroll -- is there a generational player in the Intl pool and if he doesn't populate by X time, do you give up so you avoid having so much dead money?

When it comes to time, I think the longer you run your franchise, the larger advantage you have. This is assuming you know what you're doing. It took me about three seasons to get my feet wet. However, getting your feet wet is sometimes all some owners ever do [it seems]. I have studied DITR, studied the draft, studied player development and studied how ratings convert to performance. Even with all of this, I still only have a .524 overall W-L record and I see some owners with .575+ W/L percentage. I think it is because they have ran their franchise for a long time and have had the 'time' to enjoy their success. However, maybe I am wrong. Maybe i still have a lot more learning to do.
I think part of it is how you like to play vs. the theoretical “best” strategy. Shooting for a million comp picks with perfect scouting isn’t probably the best strategy in the world, but I really enjoy it and I can make good teams.

In my experience the most successful strategy from a pure winning percent standpoint is start with a stacked young team or tank, load up and high draft picks & ints. Then continue going crazy in INT, trade away your stars once they get expensive to an owner who will give you younger future stars, rinse and repeat. It’s how most dynasty’s i see operate. But it’s not something I really enjoy and you sacrifice parts of the game that way.

At the end of the day, I think some people enjoy certain parts of the game more and some people just want the wins and don’t care how they get there.

I think I am with you -- I enjoy the work of not only scouting for future superstars, but also trying to make the most of every opportunity (DITR, comp picks, late round picks, etc.). Maybe I am not making the most of every opportunity if I am not finding that chum that will trade me his young talent for my old talent. I know trading is part of the game, and each trade is unique, but i would like to be in a World where the types of trades you mentioned above are vetoed (i.e. where the owner trades his aged 29+ stars for 20 year old future stars that will be just as good).

I wonder if it is a case of tinkering or not. BIG LEAGUE World is at the exact same time (currently 48 days left and had their draft on 08/16) and i don't see anything in their chat about it so i don't think it happened to them. You would think that if the coders were tinkering, it would affect both Worlds???

I believe they are changing chit behind the scenes and not for the better. Injuries, recoveries and drops in ratings with high budgets being the ones I have noticed. It makes me rethink upping every season.

The way that I currently understand the game is that if you max your training budget, the guys on your team will not lose their athletic ratings as quickly. If they are changing that, then they need to update the FAQ, the player's guide, and the help manual.

Also, if they are tweaking the medical budget to where guys don't fully recover from their injury, that needs to announced in some capacity so owners can adapt accordingly. I am still seeing full injury recovery kicking in, but it seems to be less predictable than before.

Anyone notice any difference in IFAs (quantity and quality)?

Ive gotten less then before after injuries and loss of ratings earlier then before.

How many draftee development cycles will it take at the end of the season to be able to demote a pick in order to get playoff time? If I promote the player to HiA and then demote to RL, do I have a work around? Would love to get him one more development cycle with RL playoff time, which is my only minor league team to make it.

They have each had 1, which I'm afraid is not enough.

I use the promote, then immediately demote strategy to get my true prospects more playing and have yet to run into any penalty. However, based on the above discussion regarding potential changes going on behind the scenes, I can't guarantee it will always work. Also, make sure to promote them again or put them on the 40-man roster when the minor league playoffs are over. If not, they might retire on you if they are inadvertently left in rookie ball.

This is more just out of curiosity than anything- anyone know what the rough $ value of a spring training invite is from an IFA perspective? I’ve always wondered if it really does much of anything.
8/29/2020 2:59 PM
So I offer invites to my top 3/4 round picks In the draft, and can sign draft picks anywhere from 80-95% of their Original demands. Not sure how that would translate to IFA, but I save around 25-100k on most guys.
8/29/2020 7:28 PM
That’s interesting. I’ve never even considered offering less than the demand
