I feel like I know where I slipped up on this team, so here goes the eval. Last season I chased 5 season players, this year I wanted to focus on taking players with 1-3 really good seasons and fill out rest later. I got away from this too quick.
1) Shaq - When ash sent me the trade offer for Dwight, my only hesitancy around it was putting tarheel and ash in front of me in rounds 2 and 3. Rounds 2 and 3 feel so very important in this league and it scared me. But i like Shaq more, so I said f it. I won't be using the same seasons as kinoa, but 4 of them are the same
2) Whiteside - The issue with Shaq is usually finding the boards to go with him. I sold myself going into the draft that the 19-20 seasons would be available, so once I realized 3 starting seasons of Whiteside were available, he was the no brainer to myself
3) Draymond - I really wanted Kyrie here. I had already sold myself on some duplicates from kinoas teams, but then ash had to screw things up and go full on copycat. Knowing I was chasing the 19-20 seasons, I was going for Dame in the 4th. That had me originally looking at Ben Simmons here, but at the last moment I chose Draymond. I wasnt happy at first, but the simple boost in assists prevented me from chasing PGs I was not interested in later.
4) Dame - Once I took Shaq, I know I wanted an high usage guard. Looking through the 19-20 stats, I fell in love with Lillard. It was like a new scotch I had to taste.
5) Dumars - I was eyeing Dumars once I got Draymond. He seemed to be the perfect compliment to Dame. Maybe I overrate him, but this us back to back years I have taken him around this spot and there were many guards that went before him, that I would not have taken. He gives me 3s and good assists with 1 90 d season and 3 70 d seasons. His last 90 d season can be placed with a team that has enough 3s.
6) Jonas - After starting to develop teams, I was really enjoying the high efg PF pairing I had with Shaq. I needed 2 more seasons and the 19-20 Jonas season will fit one of those. He also has 4 other seasons that will fit in any of my teams. D sucks, but very happy with Jonas. Was ****** Ash took Bridges, that was my 7th round target.
7) McCollum- Messed this pick up. Once Bridges was gone, this was VCs spot, he has 2 starter worthy seasons and one of those is great to counter Draymonds TOs. Once he went, for some odd reason, I was looking for a backup for Shaq. Family was in town and my wife had given me the look multiple times of get off your phone. I wanted Javale, but once he was gone I took Arvydas. Thank god he was already taken. This would have been so many wasted minutes. Next I panicked because I held things up and I picked CJ. I was targeting CJ in the 8th to back up Lillard, and I think my mind was warped by their bubble run(even though CJ had some rough games). I shouldn't have targeted someone this early that I'm going to use as a backup 4 years. Fortunately with dumars/shaq/draymond, I can afford starting CJ one season and still run 67% ast with my SL. This pick ended up very important to my team because of players with shortened seasons. I should have taken
8) Cooper - After I took Dumars, I began targeting Cooper. Matches assists and has the defense. If the 70 d Dumar seasons are not enough starting defense, I can rotate. Almost gambled to see if I could wait until the 9th and find another SF with worthy starting seasons, but I decided to hold off for 2 more rounds.
9) Jarrett Allen - Another new scotch season. By this point I did not have a post season with less than 57 efg. I said let's let it ride and get another 60 efg to pair with Shaq. I can use his 18-19 season in spare minutes somewhere else. In the end, this was too early for Jarrett. I should have taken Sabonis Jr.
10) James Johnson - I do not like one Draymond season and JJ has 1 starter worthy season. Easy choice here. He has one other season I really liked, but who knew that partial 90 d 19-20 season was coming? Thought I was getting 1 starting season and 1 backup, now I'm getting 2.5 seasons out of him.
11) Richaun Holmes - Really surprised Holmes lasted this long. Was shooting for Cornbread this whole round, but Holmes fell and gives me 4 solid partial SF seasons. I'll be using 2.5
12) Dedmon - Had a couple of seasons that I still need 10+ minutes in the paint. Originally I was going Greg Monroe, but chased efg so none of my paint minutes have less than 55 efg. Dedmon has a couple of really useful seasons, I am blah on some teams he is playing on.
I really like 4 of my teams. 1 team has good %s across the board, but I'm realistic and I look at it and I say blah. I regret the CJ and Allen pick the most, no coincidence they both start on the blah team. Fortunately I can swap in Dames worst of the 5 seasons, still blah, and Jonas' high minute season, less blah, for Allen for boards. Shaq was fun to build with, I have never had the opportunity, but I know my oReb is lower than I would like and I know where my weaknesses are. My guard rebounding is an atrocity and maybe that's why Dumars falls, but still way too many guards went ahead of him where Dumars offers more. I still dont know why I was looking for a Shaq backup, I simply move the highest usage Whiteside/Jonas season as the backup. Hopefully it goes better than last season, but as ash pointed out in his post there is a reason why I run .500 to .530 in competitive leagues. Part of it is my lack of wanting to adjust lineups. Any who, this league has kept me on this site and dh I say thank you. I am already looking forward to selecting 6th next season and having the same people available to me rounds 2-5.
