ANOTHER Fair Play Violation?? dun dun duuuun Topic

Being forthcoming would be a way to be more convincing that one was playing fair, given the bundle of - unfortunate - circumstances. IF that is a goal.

One thing that I personally overlooked about scouting, that I pushed aside in MY head, is the Public Camps. I never ever use them. But for a coach on the east coast, you can do the Cali camp and then assistant, and then you're getting players scouted along far enough to L2 or L3, and you can see preferences. From there, you can make good playable decisions.

For the longest, I would see Mrslam in Alaska, and I'm in SC, and I'd see him show up on players in my backyard with "far from home" preferences. Then I'd go to, say, Delaware. And I'd see him on another player with far from home preference. And I'd flip out in my head thinking something foul was going on. Because in my head, I thought how in the hell a coach in Alaska can 1) find two random recruits in two random east coast states 2) that are good! And 3) that BOTH have the far from home preference?

That use to drive me nuts! But then I thought about what I mentioned above...... Public Camp, FSS those states from that public camp, and then assistant or individual scouting.... that is a method to get it done. Even if it seems unorthodox to some of us who do not feel that is an "ideal" scouting strategy, it IS a way to validate the results I've seen.

Also a big one, not in mrslams case (he's a great coach), but not everyone that plays this game is "good" or "efficient" or whatever word you wanna use. Some coaches may just throw a bunch of crap out there and see what happens, when it comes to scouting. Something else we need to keep in mind

There are lots of good ways to scout efficiently (hell, to play any aspect of this game) that most folks don’t think of. I think lots of us get into our routines, what works for us, and forget there are a ton of other ways to play. That is on purpose. That was specifically how it was designed. Like there aren’t a bunch of scouting options to just lead people down wrong paths and give people wrong options so it’s harder to find “the right way” among all those other wrong ways. There are lots of tools because A) people are going to want to use different strategies personally, just because of personal style preference, and B) different things will work better in different situations (location, division, number of scholarships, etc). That’s why all this speculation about other players’ scouting and recruiting is really a fool’s errand. The only one who can make an educated and accurate assessment of adherence to FPG is seble/CS, because you’d need to see what kind of actions were taken, and piece together a number of timelines to understand if any collusion has taken place. When I was operating 2 accounts - years ago now - I avoided internationals altogether at the D2 school to avoid the appearance of shenaniganry, even though recruiting D1 Mexico would have been advantageous from a D2 Texas school. But even that is not clear cut for the reason darnoc pointed out earlier; it is possible to occasionally come up with some D1 pool international gems at D2 simply by watching what D1 does from level 1. It’s expensive, and you probably have to get lucky for it to work out for an excellent recruit, so if it happens consistently, it’s probably still worth noting; but it can be done.

Yeah public camps work on the west coast and depending on location are efficient if you scout D1 and D2. I ran them when I was at Cali D2 briefly.

In Phelan I am probably going to sign 4 players who are farther than 2000 miles away. I scout far differently than most people who play though. I only scouted 6 guys to level 4 who were that far away.

His scouting strategy will absolutely show whether he is cheating or not. That’s my opinion and I get exactly where you’re coming from in regards to asking him that question.

This is spot on. People are not good at recruiting for the most part. The type of players that people sign is baffling a lot of times. So yeah, a "bad" Scouting strategy could be totally legit. They just don't know any better.

I assume you’re talking D2 though right? It’s a lot different than D1. Also NE is just random?

Yup D2 budget.

How is this against FPG. If someone is done playing, but has credits and wants to transfer his account to a friend or family member and let them start paying and playing, I son't understand this. I know it's a year ago, but just came across it

Hello,

We've recently had an issue related to one user permanently transferring a WhatIfSports site account to another user. This practice is against our Terms of Use.

We've decided to give a pass to anyone who has done this in the past, but going forward any accounts that are found to have been transferred will be immediately closed and no refunds or season/prize transfers will be allowed.

It's ok to temporarily allow someone to manage your account if you're not able to, but that shouldn't extend longer than a few weeks. If there's a special circumstance where it needs to extend longer than that, please contact us and explain the situation.

Thanks

The basic idea is coaches should have to actually play the game and earn their way up. And the jobs process should run based on merit rather than bidding for top jobs.

You also don't own your account, you have zero property rights in it, and it isn't yours to sell or transfer; you own a license to your account. The difference is important.

There was a bro in the early days of HD who put his D1-qualified account on ebay. He got several bids for it before Tarek intervened. Same thing has come up from time to time in GD and HD.

A lot of people have bristled at this over the years, but it's a good rule.

Ebay???? Hahaha how would that ever be seen? Can't think of many people searching ebay for fake basketball profiles. But this is hilarious!

I also feel like if it's publically known that you can share credits, accounts, etc that seble would be creating an avenue for more of these fantastic threads that everybody loves! "Johnny is using Tom's account now" or "that's not fair that shoe gets all of Tops credits cuz Top is the best ever and shoe is terrible!" (Sorry shoe, needed an example name!)..... so maybe it's just easier for the site to not deal with those things. Even if it doesn't sound bad on the surface.

Selling of accounts is universally against most publisher's TOS/EULA.
8/31/2020 8:46 AM
I agree selling account is wrong, I was just asking about transferring to a friend or family member. I understand that concept kc, but if you've built up a dynasty and can't play anymore for some reason I don't see anything wrong with giving account to Johnny Jr and let him changed password and now it will be his and he will pay for seasons and play. That's all

I must be one of the lazier scouters out there. I do the states, home camp then asst search within 500 miles until I'm broke. Takes zero thought - which I'm pretty good at.
