All Time Greats 10 year Progressive League (dead) Topic

Theme Concept

This will be a 10 year progressive league using some of the best baseball players in MLB history. Each player drafted must have at least 10 WIS eligible seasons in the database. Owners will be required to use a 10 season consecutive span of each player's career, with the exception that gaps in service may be skipped over without penalty.

For example, if you draft Babe Ruth and decide that you'll start with his 1920 season, then you must use his 1920-29 seasons in chronological order. You can't skip over his 1925 $3.6M season that was by far his worst season within that stretch. You've just got to deal with it that one year.

If someone else drafted Ted Williams and decides they will start with his 1941 season, then they could skip over his war years of 1943-45 and 1952 (because these seasons are not in the WIS database). In this case, the final season used would be 1954.

Draft order will be determined at random and will snake back and forth each round. Round 1 will be off the clock and then time blocks will be 1 hour for the majority of the draft. We may look at switching to 30 minute time slots for the later rounds.

At the end of each season, two randomly selected players will be chosen from each team to become free agents. These players will be thrown into an off-season draft pool. Prior to the start of season one, owners will name one protected player that will be exempt from the possibility of being selected as a free agent throughout the length of the league. Once named, this player can't be changed. Draft order for this will be worst to first based on regular season W/L record at the 120 game mark. Round 2 will snake back in reverse order of round 1.

Rules
  1. League Format - 24 teams and standard WIS format (if not enough interest is there to fill 24 teams, we may reduce it down to 16+ teams)
  2. Salary Cap - $255 million
  3. Clone Usage - No clones within the league
  4. Ballparks - will be drafted and are exclusive to each team. All ballparks with any effects of +3 or higher or -3 or lower are blacklisted.
  5. League Alignment - Random each year
  6. Injuries - Yes
  7. DH - Yes
  8. WW - No
  9. AAA - No
  10. Trades - yes (12 vetoes to block a trade). Free agent draft pick slots can be traded.
  11. Transaction deadline in effect at game 120

1 question,
Are you using the entire WIS database?
Yes, as long as the player has 10 different WIS seasons in the database....

Glad to have you both, thanks for joining!

Problem is a lot of great players had bad first years, so depending on how you draft that first year may be a throw away.

You don’t have to start with their first year. You just have to use a 10 year consecutive block of seasons. Glad to have you!

That’s even better

Like the concept and I'm considering joining but I have a few questions first.
First: DH yes or no
Second: Let's assume there are 24 teams and everyone has selected their 25 players in the initial draft. The way I interpret the rules is that throughout the 10 seasons only those 600 players will be used. Is that correct?
Third: For example, say Johnny Bench gets randomly thrown into the draft pool after season 4 and his seasons run from 68-77. I select him in the upcoming 5th season draft. I'm assuming I start with his 1972 season which would be his 5th season of use. Is that correct?
Fourth: When a player is drafted are his seasons posted then?
Fifth: Will the seasons of every player be posted or just those that are randomly chosen to go into the draft pool?

Glad you're interested rmarsh.....here are the answers to your questions:
  1. Yes on DH.....I thought I put that in the rules but obviously I overlooked it. We'll have so many talented players, it will help get them more PA's by using the DH.
  2. You are correct.....once we establish our pool of players, they'll be the only ones in the league.
  3. Yes on this point, players who become free agents and thus picked up by another team must be used in the next season in line.
  4. Seasons are not posted upon drafting, but will need to be set once the roster is full. That way the owner can wait and see if he has any gaps or weak spots at some point down the road and plan accordingly.
  5. We will have a roster thread where everybody posts their roster and the season range of each player. Example, if I draft Babe Ruth and decide to start with his 1920 season, then I would post "Babe Ruth 1920-29". I will also set the league up as a multi-season league so that way we can go back and look at rosters from each season to ensure that the correct season of each player is used.

Ok great to have you Alexis!

Have you given further thought to reducing the number of teams below 24? Also, have you considered having a minimum number of wins by game 120 in order to get a top 3 pick (to avoid tanking)?

I'm considering joining but not jumping in quite yet.
