2020 SLB Players and Teams Will be Wild Topic

My favorite thing is that you can get
AL .088 avg, 31 OPS+ Dan Vogelbach,
or you can get .328 avg, 162 OPS+ Don Vogelbach

I also wanna see how John Means stats turn out.
0.98 WHIP, 2.5 HR/9

Means is one of the ones I’m really interested in checking out.

Has WIS indicated anywhere yet if they'll be lowering the qualifying IP/PA for 2020? Right now we would have an average of about 7 pitchers per team if they don't change it (198 as of this morning), and that's going to make it impossible to use these teams.

Even going all the way down to 15 IP would probably leave us short, but it would be much closer (401 so far). There were about 500 qualifying pitchers in 2018 and 2019. To get that many in 2020, the cutoff would have to go down to 8 (though, to be fair, with a 2.7 multiplier 9 would be the correct cutoff proportionally).

I'd rather see them use a proportional cutoff and get the players into the database. Theme owners can always exclude 2020 if they want to, but it would be fun to have a full allotment.
I asked admin about this maybe a month ago

If I understood the answer they would FIRST prorate stats then add to sim, so enough guys would make it. In other words, many more will make the 25 ip limit

The impression I got was an understanding this was necessary. We’ll see

As a Cardinals fan I hope they use 58 games and not 60 for them. It will matter. Plus with games packed into so few days all their SP will come in pretty low

They typically use team games played for the proration aspect. So, I am fairly certain both StL and DET will be prorated from 58 games and not 60.

And suddenly a guy to keep an eye on is Kenta Maeda and his 0.71 WHIP
Ended up yielding 40 hits in 66-2/3rds ip. Remarkably, 23% of those hits left the yard.

Good find. What a difference a league makes.

Devin Williams:

A) What do you think his salary will be?
B) Does he go to the very top of the RP list?

we're talking about the ridiculous Gagne/Mike Adams/Dave Robertson/Milacki seasons, with lower OAV, higher K/9 and lower HR/9. It's really uncharted territory. those guys all cost $55-100k+ per IP. If Williams gets prorated to 74ip, we're talking $4-8mm total. Given the k rate and OAV, I don't think 6mm is out of the question.

Robertson may be the best comp, because the stats are similar and he was never subject to dynamic salary increases like the others.
D Williams 27 ip | 8 h | 9 bb | 53 k | 1 hr | 0.86 fip | 0.63 whip | ??/ip
Robertson 35 ip | 14 h | 12 bb | 51 k | 1 hr | 2.10 fip | 0.74 whip | $55k/ip

even so, Williams non-adjusted OAV is at least 1/4 lower, and the k rate still much higher

Kyle Tucker is going to be the best normalizing triples hitter since Reyes and Rollins 14 and 12 years ago

They're out... have fun!

And they pro-rated first, so there's guys with 20 RL PA and 9.1 IP

Disappointing, though I know I am in the minority on that. Certainly it has given us some players with crazy numbers.

I expect that I will be banning 2020 players from any theme leagues I create going forward.

Also disappointed, I would've rather they stuck to the minimum thresholds and had a smaller player pool that was more reflective of past seasons in the sim. Definitely some unique options now though...

Trevor Rosenthal is a joke, 0.40 WHIP with 0 HR/9. $95,000 per inning with no price increase!
