This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Some of it depends on the rating. I've seen perimeter increase from 35 to 90 before. But I've never seen that large of increase in Defense before.

Here is the general range for how much growth to expect from the different colors:
Green is 28+
Blue is 20-27
Black is 8-19
Yellow is 4-7
Red is 0-3

Since Green is 28+ its range can vary wildly. Low Post and Perimeter are the two ratings that are more likely to get extremely high growth, as seen in skinndogg's above example.

I recently asked a similar question in a site mail:

Potential Ratings Growth:
Red: 0-3 points
Yellow: 4-7 points
Black: 8-19 points
Blue: 20-27 points
Green: 28+. Varies. For ATH, I’m estimating 30. Estimate 35 for most other skills. If it’s PASS and the starting number is low, estimate 40. For LP and PER green can increase even more than 40.

The numbers for green growth estimates come from a Site Mail from Cub. They’re helpful estimates when analyzing potential recruits.

Thanks very much everyone, that's great info, exactly what I was seeking!

Black goes up higher than people think, the minimum blue increase is 21. 79 blue must -> 100.

Here is a link to an incredbly awesome post on player growth.

Remember this is how much actually players grew, not the difference between the starting rating and cap.
BH has better growth than I remembered and PA worse. It looks like they're pretty much identical. My bad on the one.

This is good info. Something else I'm wondering about is how to tailor a player's practice minutes based on the colors. For example, is it best to underweight minutes on the reds and oranges, and overweight minutes on the blues and greens?

There's a bit more nuance than that, but generally yes.

If you're a bit compulsive like I am you might take the senior who has an orange 96 in a category and pour 20+ minutes into it just because you really want to see it get to 99/100. But most top coaches advise you dwindle minutes to 4 (for LP/PER) and 8 (for most other categories) if the player turns orange/red and you want to maintain the skill where it's at. Depending on how high the skill is/how critical it is and how many other blue/greens they may have, you can also drop it to 0, you should just expect some regression in the skill.

I might get a little more drastic than others, but I tailor the practice minutes to what I need most. I currently have a Freshman PG who I need to start next season. His practice has been heavily weighted in conditioning for speed, ball handling, and passing. Some of his other potentials I’ve let stay stagnate while I get the passing I need (almost there!) then grow the other skills.

I've got a player that I recruited that was 23 PE and he's at 72 now and still green :)

I start with the cores. When Sr season comes and most/all cores are closed to maxed, I'll switch my heavy minutes to the non cores to get some late growth.

For example I have a guard that has 33 blue REB. But he's my SG (this is D2). His Soph year is midway and I'm still focusing on his ball skills. But he'll likely get close to maxing at the end of this season. So next season I'll throw a 10 in REB maybe more, to start the growth.

I'll love to have 50 REB from a guard. It'll help. But not at the expense of having his 60ish BH stay stagnant when it can reach the high 70s. So I wait until later to address the REB in that case

you should put very little practice into reds and oranges if there are categories that are black blue or green.

I take reds to zero and reduce oranges to a low or zero number - until all are orange or red

might put meaningful minutes into a core orange even while there are some non core black - lets say a guard is orange in speed but black in block
