Dividin' Biden Topic

Actually, everything is right on schedule.

I was hoping for 4 more from Trump and another 4 or more years transition before the collapse.

The recent corrupt burlesque production of our dying Republic, in a systematic execution by the supreme powers of authority above the law, against those reasonable and legitimate people, now removed from the government by the government for the government, is that proof displayed on the stone that is our national tomb. That future foretold is now undeniably here. Foreordained through that precarious free-will given and used so all stand equally before the law.

And although I'm not happy or in favor of Biden, I do understand it. It must be. It was inevitable. And to me, that was the trip-wire that sets in motion the obvious. THEY WILL NOT fix our election system. They will only corrupt it even more. And so it will be exciting, in a painful way; knowing what lies ahead for some, to see the puzzle unfold.

I don't know all the particulars other than the Republic, what is left of it, will now be dismantled and those safeguards meant to protect, used to destroy.

My initial guess is another stolen election in Georgia, then 1 or 2 more states, an expanded Supreme Court...all leading to a de-facto one party system. Republicans are now only powerless show pieces used to fool the misinformed opposition as proof of a viable and healthy bi-lateral political system. A permanent minority, and extremely short-lived at that.

And that's just the beginning of the end. Not to infer it will in any way be a drawn out affair. On the contrary. Get ready for Warp speed.

Yes, we weren't divided before... political correctness?

What the **** does that even mean? So if everyone stopped being "PC" (whatever that means) we would just agree on everything?
No. Before it was OK to publicly state how you feel. See shows like the Jeffersons and All in the Family. Neither would make it on the air today. It is OK to stereotype for comedic reasons. George Jefferson called Tom Willis honky countless times. No one cared. The Dukes of Hazard car was named the General Lee with a confederate flag painted on it. No one cared.

I never said agree on everything but compromise is nice. I tell my kids this: "Try your very best not to offend someone but try even harder not to be offended".

Easier said than done but my NY resolution is to live by those very words.
You said, "Political correctness is what truly divides us."

Ummm.... no. So your argument is that the biggest divisions in America today are people getting offended at comedians? Seriously?

Why does this matter? Why are you so invested in what some randos are offended about?
12/16/2020 5:19 PM
Hey doug... simple solution.

Republicans are the minority. There are less Republican voters than Democratic voters nationwide, by a significant amount. If the election system was fair, yeah, under the current voting patterns, Republicans WOULD lose consistently.

But again, here's the solution: Maybe change what your party advocates for so that more Americans like you? For example, maybe be less racist and black people will vote for you at a greater than 1 in 10 rate? Maybe stop trying to take away healthcare from millions of Americans? Maybe stop with the economic austerity measures that are clearly unpopular and ineffective? Maybe stop endlessly propagating foreign wars and conflicts that most Americans are fed up with (and yes, that one can go both ways)?

I didn't realize that it was the conservative way to whine about a problem instead of fixing it. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and win more votes. Not difficult.

I used comedians as an example. If I say I want stronger border security the trolls on social media play the race card. If I say I don't support UH the trolls play the wealth vs. poverty card. If I say I believe BLM is a terror group the social media trolls again play the race card and the white privilege card. People are actually afraid to say how they feel now. To the left if you're with them then they embrace you but if you dare to state the opposite the vitriol is cruel. Look at 50 Cent and Ice Cube and the backlash they received for speaking with DJT. That is what truly divides us IMO.

Cleveland Indians changing their name after 100 years. Who is next? Celtics? Notre Dame? Your beloved Chiefs? Florida State? What if atheists are offended by the Anaheim Angels? What if religious nuts are offended by the Duke Blue Devils?

Where does it stop and who decides it?

Yes, some people disagree with your opinions, and they might have the opinion that you are racist. OK? Who cares? The left was mean to you. So what?

Are you arguing that if somehow we were just all not "PC" those on the left would suddenly agree with your opinions? How is this a source of the division?

You realize that them calling you racist isn't PC culture, right?

I genuinely do not care about teams changing their names. It doesn't affect me AT ALL. That's a business decision driven by a desire for marketability. Blame the free market if you care so much. Sorry.

If we're going to use the slippery slope arguments, then I'll throw one back at you. Clearly, you think that being called racist is some sort of hate crime. So where does that end? If we end PC culture, would we have Nazis running around talking about how Jews should be killed, but calling them racist is evil and wrong? Should we not have hate speech laws, at all?

You're also a massive hypocrite. We just had a long discussion over SM where I cited numerous studies and rarely spoke ill of you, but you repeatedly used ad hom attacks on me without addressing the content of my argument. You've also repeatedly called Democrats anti-semitic for merely criticizing Israel. Is that PC?

Woah, you're saying that people who argue Israel should be less involved in brutalizing the Palestinian people are criticizing all the Jews in Israel? That seems a bit anti-semitic of you.

Hate to break it to you, but the argument that Israel, as an entity, is representative of all Jews or the Jewish interest is used by Nazis. In fact, that's the core of their ideology. Criticizing Israel is NOT the same as criticizing Jews. Criticizing America is NOT the same as criticizing white people.

And it really does seem like you're offended by people calling you racist. Oh well. Hopefully after new year's you'll stop being as triggered about it.

That's kinda obviously wrong. Trump wasn't good for divisions, but the country was already hopelessly divided - politically speaking - before Trump entered the arena.
^^^THIS^^^

Trump basically squashed the PC rhetoric and the majority of Hollywood and media (both traditional and social) went ape nuts. Political correctness is what truly divides us.
No. Racism and prejudice is what truly divides us. They were around long before political correctness became a thing.
How? 99% of the people condemn racism and prejudice? What you see on social media is 2% of what the country actually thinks. I do not follow your train of thought. Then again, that is par for the course when trying to follow your train of thought. You are a very negative person.
**** off. You're a Red Sux fan so you have no room to criticize anyone. Where do you come up with that 99% figure? Did you just pull it out of your ***. So, you think you know what the rest of the country thinks? Where'd did you get that 2% figure? Was it in your *** with the 99% figure, or is it based on your two black friends? I'm not negative at all. Cynical, yes. Negative no.

Oh, and just because someone condemns racism and prejudice, that doesn't mean ****. Most people are not going to admit if they are prejdciced or racist.

The Old Lady Republic has hardening of the arteries. The life giving flow of blood has been slowed by the irresistible formation of layer upon layer of bureaucracy buried deep inside the body politic and hidden from view. The free flow of honest and credible information corrupted by a mirror virus disguised as friendly, eventually blocking the flow causing painful spasms and never healing lesions. It continued when the rule book was removed from the children and babies lain on the alter of convenience. A legion of men in suits has entered the Capitol, paid off the senate, invested the lawgivers, influenced the judges and paralyzed the weak. A faceless, nameless dictator now sits on the throne. The Republic is dead. Long live the king? "sic transit gloria. momento mori"

Exactly this. Democrats take the positions that have emotional appeal. It takes no courage to say "everybody should get free college, healthcare should be free etc". You already know that will appeal to everybody. It takes more courage to tell people they can't have stuff - "here are the reasons why free college would have devastating long-term effects on both academia and society at large..." Yeah, those just don't hit you in the feels the same way. But it takes more courage to tell people the truth. The system is fragile, and if a law, tradition, or practice has existed a longtime , you better sure as hell try to understand why it was implemented/practiced in the first place before you discount it out of hand because it doesn't seem to fit with a modern worldview. Long story short, if you're over 30 and have accrued any kind of wisdom in your life - you start to respect longstanding tradition and practices a lot more.
