When did a $400,000/year family become middle class? If that's true, I really am poor - but still want no handouts.
12/17/2020 12:51 PM
Yeah, in what world is a family earning 400k/year “middle class”?

Um, the majority of the country ARE taxpayers.
um....really? Then I guess Tangplay's statement was incorrect. Thanks for pointing it out.
Huh? What was incorrect?
Two things:

1) You are a logical human being.

2) That most Americans want free ****.
I'm genuinely unsure as to how being a taxpayer prevents someone from wanting universal healthcare.

I am a taxpayer. I also support a public option as the bare minimum.

Most Americans would be happy to take free stuff if it was offered to them. Do you really believe this is untrue? and there you go, trying not to offend anyone again! Good job!
I do. I believe most Americans are hard working persons that want to earn a decent wage and have quiet enjoyment in terms of living. I do not mind paying higher taxes but I do not trust our Gov't to spend the monies wisely. Just more wasteful spending. Like I said, wylie, if politicians agreed to take a 25% pay cut due to COVID-19 I would be much more receptive to their ideas of shut downs, lockdowns, etc. But when your life doesn't change from a financial perspective its easy to say shut down and then advise to print more money to pay for the shutdowns (partially).

This is what people like tangplay want. Big Gov't to just spend wastefully and then blame those like Jeff Bezos for being successful and not sharing their wealth. While I give you grief, I believe you are a lot more logical than those like tangplay and we would probably agree more than we disagree when it comes to matters such as these.
You realize that you can't have this perspective while simultaneously supporting a huge military budget, right? Even if I accepted your premise, I know your other positions. You believe that the government can spend money effectively.

CCCP should really refrain from commenting on things that can be easily proven with facts. Polling shows that most Americans support basic governmental programs like social security, increased involvement in healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc.

Polling --- LOL

We should really believe polling? Funny, I have never been polled.

Social Security - yes
Nationalized Healthcare - no (if it were yes then Sanders would have won the nomination)
Free Education - no (see above)
Infrastructure - yes (bi-partisan) --- also creates jobs.

Military budget creates a lot of jobs in the private sector and keeps our country safe. I support a strong military budget. Including a budget for cyber terrorism, etc.

USAID is basically a military program. Do you not support that? If not, why?
12/17/2020 1:36 PM
Again, this isn't an opinion. Most Americans support these policies. Polling also showed that Sanders was winning among most Democrats in policy preference. He lost because Biden was perceived as being more electable.

We have to deal with reality. The reality is that you are in the minority here.

Why do you support excess government spending and big government?

Why do you get to take my hard-earned money to pay for things that I'm not even involved with and won't benefit from?

It's wasteful spending, according to you. Why do you trust the government to spend money wisely here and nowhere else? Genuinely?

I hope you recognize that you are making my argument pertaining to other social programs. Diff is that the policies I advocate for benefit more people.

I want a strong military, but when the military spends hundreds of dollars on a hammer or a toilet that is wasteful. That money could be better spent in other ways.

CCCP and I had a long argument in SM where I proved that military spending creates less jobs and is worse for the economy than, for example, investing in green energy, and he got really triggered in response and never really had a comeback.
12/17/2020 1:59 PM
the difference is the money I pay into SS I am supposed to get back. The money I would pay for someone else's free education and healthcare is money I'll never see again.
