But to continue to refute guitarguy, if DC statehood is a coup, then what about gerrymandering? Redistricting? The foundation of the Senate which benefits Republicans to a massive degree? THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE?

There are so many institutional factors that favor Republicans right now. It's why they even have a chance of maintaining power despite having over 5 million fewer voters.
It's called Representative government. We're not a democracy, we are still a Republic. That's about to change.

In the past we granted Statehood for expansion or defense or resources. DC has none of this. Granting DC statehood would be gerrymandering on a national scale.

The Republicans held power for many years after the Civil War. The Democrats held the House for 40 years straight last century.

Why change anything? This early voting and vote by mail has to end or it's the end of us.

You better get used to expanded voting.

one at a time.

This IS a Republic and it will NOT change. Ignore young 'uns like Tangy who don't understand why, nor agree.
They will always be outnumbered in the Real America. Where the votes are.

#2. WRONG. Statehood has been granted for many reasons INCLUDING Politics and appeasement and (interestingly enough) Compromise.
Granting another State would NOT be anything new to this Republic. It is however (IMO) unlikely that DC will be granted Statehood alone.........more like in combination with another territory who wants elevated.

#3 No comment. None is needed. Their have been few times in recent memory when a single Party held all 3 branches of Gov't. Usually, we don't vote for that to occur. But this year, the election was nearly all about 1 Man, unfortunately. A man who should have NEVER been allowed anywheres NEAR elected office!!

#4. Voting Early and "vote by Mail" is here to stay and has NO deleterious effects on our Representative Democracy. Espousing that it does is complete spin of ONE particular Party and has NO basis in reality. Many States have voted by MAIL successfully for years. Utah, a Republican dominated electorate uses Mail voting and it has NOT resulted in any issues, other than increasing the total vote count. In any Democracy a seriously positive event!!
Attacking the election processes and the VOTERS by making it more difficult to vote (though an old trick of the right) is a shameful attempt to "rig" elections by suppressing poor and minority votes.

YOUR continued defense of the tyrant attempting to STEAL our Republic is proof of your anti-American sympathy.
Just WHO are you working for?
Not freedom for sure!

The COUP is all the repressive measures pushed by the left and their big tech allies in the wake of 1/6, justified, they say, by this "unprecedented" threat. The so-called "Resistance" is actually consolidating its power, its position, its hold on the minds of the American Public. AOC wants a commission on fighting misinformation. The list goes on. Essentially, it is ridiculous to compare the events of 1/6 to those of 9/11, but it will be eminently sane to compare the aftermath of each. Patriot Act 2.0 is coming...this time at the behest of the Democrats. I continue to be a staunch opponent of Patriot Act 1.0, for the record. If you could transport me back to 2002, I would be a registered Dem. Notwithstanding, the absolutely horrendous turn the party has taken. Wokism is America's cultural revolution. And all but the NPCs will suffer as a result of it.
Ah, so it's not DC, it's big tech. Excellent backtrack. Of course I would oppose a Patriot Act 2.0

So if you're not a coward, actually lay out a series of policies/predictions that we can come back to in the future to see if you were right or wrong. You can't keep going off on these conspiracy theories and then backtrack when they turn out to be false.

You don't think statehood has ever been granted for political purposes? lol

Isn't it kind of crazy that Republican conspiracies about voter fraud through mail-in turned out to be complete horse **** so they completely pivoted to Dominion voting systems or whatever crazy made up lie they come up with today?

Personally, I like more people being able to vote.

Bob, can you make an actual argument for why the electoral college is good beyond a fallacious appeal to history? I've never heard a good argument for the system.

Not buying any of it. Compromise was to prevent war BUT they would have become states any ways.

The Dems are going to simple majority in Senate, new Dem states w/Dem Senators and Representatives.

The balance of power is forever gone. There will be no violent revolution. We will descend into a one party State.

This should result in a unified nation now able to turn it's attention to external threats. It will not.

I would not be surprised to see short term prosperity on the back of ruinous fiscal policy resulting in collapse.

Other calamities will follow. It's simple logic. Hunger. Disease. War. I'm not privy to details but it won't be pleasant.

If you are planning to leave early it would still behove you to take some common sense precautions. I will use the next few years to prepare supplementation resources along with my existing...soon to be dwindling financial resources. (hyper-inflation)

I thank God I will be one of the lucky ones. My suffering will be short and minimal.

Excellent
and can I add that there still are 2 major parties.
if one is imploding they need to look at themselves and not blame the Dems for winning.
we might need one party until there is a new second party because the current Republican Party needs to die.
on dc statehood I want to hear more from dc as to why they want statehood and then address what to do...

there is the fundamental issue of taxation without representation.

Imagine this. The Dems control everything for the next 2 years. Dems win midterms despite opposition thanks to new state or states and all their Dem Senators and Representatives and early/mail in ballots. THEN Dems win 2024 in a breeze. And 2026 - 2028 - 2030.........................

What are you going to do? Who are you going to blame? Better question....what are you doing now? Turn on the TV.
1/13/2021 2:03 PM
Doug... if Republicans had won the two senate seats in Georgia, the Senate would be 52-48. Even if you add DC, Republicans would still have a majority.

But yeah, there's more Democratic voters right now. I'm sorry that you're in the minority. We would probably expect Congress to lean more to the left because that's where the country is right now. The solution to this is to get more people on your side, not to attempt to keep hold of the electoral affirmative action policies that even the playing field.
