I got a question. Why do people think they need to pile on if someone doesn't like the game. ab90 payed his money and played the game.

If he liked moving between teams, so what? He payed his money and picked his teams. What makes any of you the decider of the proper way to play the game?

I played many seasons with ab90 in GD for sure. I stopped playing all WIS games in mid 2018. Just came back. Now I have 9 (soon 10) HD teams.

Guess what.. It is none of your freakin business what teams he takes or if he plays. Get a life people.
It's probably because ab90 attacked the game that most of us love, which feels like a personal attack. Why did he have to sh!t talk the game before leaving? It's a bit of a b!tch move. The equivalent of a mic drop.

To be honest, his strategy of constantly changing teams is probably why he eventually got bored. He never really built anything.

So, I get the new thing is to personally attack people whom one disagres with. But IMHO it is just silly.

Does it matter why he wants to play or not play? No.

Also.. I'd take as many people as we can get who play the game however they want if they pay money. That is what is going to keep this game alive.

Again.. What makes keeping one team forever better than moving every season?

Is there a challenge to doing a rebuild? Sure. Is that the only way to play? No.

i was going to say something similar but its not the first thread like this and has nothing to do with whether he likes the game - as you discerned folks just don't like that ab moves around some between teams, staying only 3-4 seasons at a bunch (how dare he) and sometimes even less (i cannot even find the words). even though he's built programs of his own and has plenty of 'real' success to stand on - somehow folks take this as a serious affront.

i honestly don't get it, if it was just 'i don't respect your resume because half your championships came from cherry picked teams' - ok. but the personal hatred, i don't get it. i mean, its just ordinary hatred, the ignorant kind, so i guess i do get it. still a shame though.

Yeah, I get that a childish post doesn't require childish responses. The personal attacks aren't required. And I have no problem with how he (or anyone) plays the game. Just making observations based on your questions.

Does it matter why he wants to play or not play? If it doesn't, then why did he create an incendiary post before bailing?

it was kinda a dumb thread though i'll admit that, not a huge fan of the i'm leaving this game sucks bye posts, but i feel like its pretty quiet around here and there's no need to overly police that stuff...

ab90 is a piece of trash that needs validation in his life. There is a reason why an asterisk is next to his name on the user championships post. He’s the kind of person who the majority would strongly dislike in real life away from the game. At least that’s my feeling based on a few interactions. There is a smugness in all of his posts; so good riddance. Plus he hasn’t contributed in any ounce to making the community stronger or better. That says enough about him.

Personally I don't give two ***** what ab does or doesn't do. His team hopping has never really bothered me.

But what do you expect people to say when he makes an unnecessary thread like this? beach is correct in that he's never added anything to HD in a meaningful way that I'd observed in my 5 years playing this game. Perhaps he did a long time ago before my time but I've never seen him help a noob with their team or offer any advice to anyone. I mean, he's said many times that he only plays for the amazon gift cards, he's not going to invest much into improving the game or helping the 'community'.

He's quitting after playing 500 seasons because the player names are boring? You sound like a butthole.

ab made this thread for one reason and one reason only - to troll one last time and get everyone riled up. That giant 20 page thread from a few months back that he started did just that and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. It made him the center of attention because he enjoys being the villain and getting everyone's panties in a bunch. (which is a good time, not gonna lie)

So stay or go, I don't care and neither should anyone else really. But you can't blame people for being happy or - at best - apathetic to his exit.

In MOST cases, I don't see it as personal attacks. Maybe consider it "game personal". Just as some of you don't care. Some do care. A few things to note.....

1) ab90 doesn't pay money. Sure maybe 10 years ago.
2) not paying is maybe a part of what some people don't like regarding his style. He uses the rest of us to pay for him. We build teams, he takes them repeatedly.
3) he's a quality coach when he needs to be. That's never been a debate. But his job hopping is so extreme that it obviously gets noticed by dozens and dozens that don't like it. So sure, if two coaches came here and said "we don't like this".... big deal. But I'd say there's more people that have a negative opinion of it, than the amount of people that don't care. So it's definitely a "thing". No matter which side you fall on.
4) my feelings are, one of the few issues I have is that I want everyone here to be playing the same game. He does not. It's a game within a game for him. When we leave teams, he takes them and has admittedly said he plays only to win the Amazon gift cards. Cool so be it. But as a community we're basically buying the gift cards for him. Hindsight, any human being could come here, take the best job available each and every season, never recruit, never game plan, and still by having a talented team, come out on the plus side, as far as credits. And literally make money off of it. Every issue I have with it is based around that...... is that what you want for your game? Does the community, CS, the site, etc want one guy standing in the corner doing weird things while the rest of us all participate in a normal way? That's the problem in my opinion.

So while some of you say "why does anybody care?" I have the opposite opinion.... how the hell can we NOT care? (Oh, and sure we don't have to leave our teams, and ab90 wouldn't get them, right? That's not the point. He's just playing a game within a game. One that the rest of us are not. And that's why it has people bothered. Whether a person is bothered by it or not, we all AT LEAST have to be able to see the community aspect of it. Bottom line is, it's just freaking weird!)

So.. There are rules to the game that are being followed. You don't like the rules and you take it out on him. Pathetic.
1/13/2021 6:24 AM
Nobody is taking it out on him. And the rules that allow it is where the problem lies. I agree that it's not "him". Its the opportunity
1/13/2021 6:30 AM
he is just a loser that about sums it up

I’ve personally never had any problem with the team hopping. I don’t think it makes any sense at all for WIS to operate the incentive structure like that, but I don’t blame anyone for playing the game that exists in the way it is designed, according to its rules. I chuckled at the attitude sometimes, but I get that they were often getting piled on as well, so I’d give a pass.

On a related note, it’s kind of a good lesson for the folks who experience a kind of burnout after having a lot of success at lower divisions. Just move up. D1 is designed to be a different game with different, higher level challenges.

“Man, I’ve got 20 D2 and D3 titles, this game is getting boring, I could play it in my sleep. I need more of a challenge.”
”Why don’t you play more D1?”
”I don’t really like it. Early entries are too frustrating, and I don’t like how strong teams with A+++ prestige are on the recruiting trail.”
“???”
1/13/2021 11:00 AM
I don't like D1. But that's what I did shoe. Not because i was bored with D2 at all. I actually did it to show that "D1 coaches are the best" isn't necessarily true. Haha. Have I proven that? Not at all yet. But I'm early in my D1 career.

and as far as Hughesjr statement regarding "within the rules, and we beat up on him. Pathetic" comment....... I just hope he's consistent in his beliefs. Maybe he's an OJ supporter. I mean OJ is innocent by law. So we shouldn't have a bad opinion of him now, right?

hilarious analogy there. in the future all conversations about HD ethics should be nonsensically compared to cold blooded murder.
