What would you do with a kid like this? Topic

I've got a very unique player on one of my D2 squads - projected ratings are below (I put +'s where he's green so growth could go higher)...where would you play a kid like this?
Triangle/FCP but curious regardless of offense/defense what you would consider:
Player A
ATH 40
SPD 65
REB 64+
DEF 40
BLK 70
LP 85
PER 93+
BH 66+
PASS 60+
ST 88
FT B+

I think I’d mostly use him at the 3. He’s nice.

I don't have much experience in D2, but I'd think his ath would prevent him from playing a front court position. And his rebounding seems somewhat wasted as a guard. I feel like he's almost stuck at the 3, but he's also really good there.

Decent scoring 3/4 off the bench in a press at D2. As a starter, he’ll be in foul trouble a lot, and opponents will get a lot of points lined up against him, but from the bench you can move him around and he’s harder for them to target. In press he can still get 20 minutes and 15+ ppg pretty efficiently with upperclassman IQ.

what shoe said - basically your first backup at the 3 and 4 and with starter-level scoring distro.

He has to play a guard/wing. 40 ath is soooooo unplayable at PF/C D2 it isn't even funny.
8.5.6

I agree .. 2 or 3 .. and w/ 40 DEF I would have never recruited him (likely). I usually filter for projected WE >= 34, DEF >= 50.

But, he should be able to score points.

He's a SF/PF for sure, I may even start him at the PF. In a press, how many people are going to up their PF distro? Let him bomb 3s from the PF spot.

Motion, man, zone, I mostly agree. No bigs. Triangle/press? I think the athleticism deficiency is muted by the things he does well in those sets, as long as you move him around so he can’t be targeted. He scores really well. He rebounds really well (somewhat wasted in time spent as a guard). Get that value while you limit his liabilities, that’s the idea.

no doubt he can score .. I do not like 40 ATH or 40 DEF , especially at PF. But, that is why this game is so fun, to see how different people approach different things :)

I would experiment with playing this guy at backup for positions 2-5 even, especially in the regular season. If he ends up being a really good bench scorer, moving him around and not defining one true position would make it more difficult to double him and could cause problems if they double consecutive positions. It's probably a limited advantage, but every little bit, am I right?

I think your filtering can cause you to miss out on elite players. I don't think that is a good idea personally.

I'm stretching this just to prove a point, but you wouldn't take a guard with 80 ATH, 85 SPD, 49 DEF, 99 PER, 82 BH, 81 PAS, 33 WE, 80 ST at D2?

i just feel like the filtering for recruiting is never a good idea. There's so many odd players that are generated that can be productive. Had a player on my Va St team that would've been filtered out of your search, that ended up being the 3rd leading scorer in team history. And he led me to a title..... from the bench! Never started at all. He also has low low ATH to go with it. But if they're elite offensively, they can ride pine their entire career, but get a quick 12 points in 9 or 10 minutes easily and not hurt you. Here he is....

Never started a game in his career. He would've not made your list in WE or DEF (and likely not for ATH if you use filters). And he was a huge piece to my team for his entire career. Not that YOU would want him. But I'm just sharing this for the community

I think this kid is a perfect example of why we could use a 5th depth chart slot. You could easily have him as a backup at the 2-4, and depending on how much growth his REB had, even the 5 in a pinch. He could easily get 20+ MPG off the bench at several positions, making him tough to gameplan against.
