OG12-2XPL 67-68/68-69 Inaugural 2X Period Topic

"Original 12" 2X Progressive League (OG12-2XPL)

I. Franchises & Teams
  • There are 12 franchises.
  • We play two seasons at the same time, which we call a "2X period," beginning with the 67-68 and 68-69 seasons
  • Franchises field teams for both seasons in a 2X period -- a team of all 67-68 players on their 67-68 team, and a team of all 68-69 seasons on their 68-69 team.
  • Draft picks, trades, etc. are made by franchises, not the individual teams

II. Owners of Franchises
  • badboys12345 - Baltimore Bullets
  • jcred5 - Boston Celtics
  • bsubroncoos - Cincinnati Royals
  • dBKC - Detroit Pistons
  • rmalle04 - New York Knicks
  • HDS1 - Philadelphia 76ers
  • jhsukow - Chicago Bulls
  • buffalo_rob - Los Angeles Lakers
  • zora4preside - San Diego Rockets
  • albiband0 - San Francisco Warriors
  • OldAndy - Seattle SuperSonics
  • seapilots - St. Louis Hawks

III. Team Name Format
  • Owners are to enter their teams in the following format: "67-68 San Diego Rockets" and "68-69 San Diego Rockets," for example
  • In honor of the old school, all franchises will forever keep their 67-68 team names.. Example: the San Diego Rockets will not evolve into the Houston Rockets

IV. Divisions and Conferences
  • All 67-68 teams will be in the Eastern Conference, and all 68-69 teams will be in the Western Conference.. This pattern will repeat so that the earlier of a franchise's two teams will always be in the East, and the latter will always be in the West
  • The franchises from the NBA's 67-68 East will be in the the WhatIf Atlantic and Midwest divisions, while the franchises from the NBA's 67-68 West will be in the WhatIf Central and Pacific divisions
ATLANTIC CENTRAL
67-68 Baltimore Bullets 67-68 Chicago Bulls
67-68 Boston Celtics 67-68 Los Angeles Lakers
67-68 Cincinnati Royals 67-68 San Diego Rockets
67-68 Detroit Pistons 67-68 San Francisco Warriors
67-68 New York Knicks 67-68 Seattle SuperSonics
67-68 Philadelphia 76ers 67-68 St. Louis Hawks
MIDWEST PACIFIC
68-69 Baltimore Bullets 68-69 Chicago Bulls
68-69 Boston Celtics 68-69 Los Angeles Lakers
68-69 Cincinnati Royals 68-69 San Diego Rockets
68-69 Detroit Pistons 68-69 San Francisco Warriors
68-69 New York Knicks 68-69 Seattle SuperSonics
68-69 Philadelphia 76ers 68-69 St. Louis Hawks

V. The Inaugural Draft
  • Draft order for the inaugural draft will be determined randomly
  • The draft sequence will be "ABBA BABA BB," with 2 picks apiece in the 9th and 10th rounds
  • All players with WhatIf seasons for 67-68 or 68-69 are eligible to be drafted
  • If you draft a player who only plays in one of the two seasons, you may use any undrafted player (a so-called "free agent") for the given season to fill his slot, but you will not have "keeper rights" to any free agents you use

VI. Subsequent Drafts
  • At the conclusion of the 67-68/68-69 2X period, we will begin preparing for the 69-70/70-71 2X period draft
  • All players who were rostered on at least one team in the previous 2X period remain "under contract" to their franchise and are ineligible to be drafted. This excludes any "free agents," who will be re-entered into the draft pool so long as they have eligible seasons in either 69-70 or 70-71.
  • All other players with WhatIf seasons in either 69-70 or 70-71 will be eligible for the 69-70/70-71 draft.
  • After the inaugural draft, all subsequent drafts will consist of four rounds. Franchises may use their draft picks even if they have 12 or more players for each of the seasons in the coming 2X period.
  • After the fourth round, franchises that are unable to field two teams of 12 players may keep making selections until they're able to complete both rosters. ("Free agents" will only be used in the inaugural 2X period)

VII. Subsequent Lottery Odds and Draft Rankings
  • Lottery odds and draft rankings will be determined by total franchise wins from the previous 2X period
  • All division winners will be put at the end of each round, with the division winner with the most franchise wins the prior 2X period given 12th pick
  • Excluding division winners, the six franchises with the fewest combined wins will be entered into the draft lottery and given equal odds of winning
  • Drawings for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks of the 1st round will be made. The remaining picks of the 1st round and all picks all subsequent rounds will be based on fewest combined wins from the previous 2X period
  • Excluding the inaugural draft, the same franchise may not win the draft lottery in two consecutive drafts

VIII. Roster Management Rules
  • No IR. If you're unable to roster a player on at least one of your two teams, you lose his rights carrying forward
  • You may carry forward a maximum of 12 players (prior to the draft) from one 2X period to the next one. If you have more than 12 eligible players, you will need to make cuts.
  • You must roster roster any player with at least 2,000 minutes played for a given season
  • Trades are allowed and encouraged.
  • Owners may protest any trades they feel are unfair and damaging to the league. Protests should be made to the Commissioner. The Commissioner will then post a poll, and if a total of 6 owners agree that the trade should be overturned, it will be invalidated. (Protests need to be made within 7 days of a trade being announced, and the poll will last for 30 days)
  • Draft picks can be traded up to three drafts in advance, but with some restrictions (see below)
  • Owners may not trade away consecutive future 1st-round draft picks. Example: If you traded away your 69-70/70-71 1st round pick, you would not be able to also trade away your 71-72/72-73 1st round pick, until during/after the 69-70/70-71 draft.
  • All owners must maintain at least 2 draft picks for every draft class. These don't have to be their own franchise's picks, but all franchises must possess at least 2 draft picks in every draft.

Owners, please let me know if you have any objections or questions about the rules. I am open to suggestions, and I'll make changes if supported by enough owners.

If you don't have any objections, let me know you're "good to go." Thanks!

P.S. - We may come up with additional "anti-tanking" rules if there is demand...

Good to go. Just a suggestion: can we do lottos via defuse/TRENT or something else that’s publicly verifiable? Not accusing anyone of anything, obviously, but it will prevent owners from getting upset at results down the line imo.

Yes, I want to do the lotteries through a verifiable source. I'm not familiar with "defuse/TRENT" but I was going to ask for recommendations. We can use what you suggest unless other owners have other ideas. Thanks again, dBKC..

Check out this league I ran, the lotto is a few posts down

https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?topicID=524381

basically the site has you reserve a lotto drawing # before you run it and you can only run the lotto once. So then if you post the lotto number *before* you run it, and then run it like 24 hours later without editing the original post, people will know you didn’t just hit random until you got the results you’re looking for. It’s what I use in my progs and it seems to work well.

Okay fellas, I've reserved a drawing number at defuse/TRENT.. #10147

https://defuse.ca/trustedthirdparty.htm?drawingnum=10147

If I understand things correctly, I can conduct the drawing in 24 hours.
  • The drawing will determine the draft order for the "A" rounds of the inaugural draft.
  • The "B" rounds will be the reverse order of the "A" rounds.
  • The draft sequence for the inaugural draft will be: ABBA BABA BB, with two picks each in rounds 9 & 10
The drawing will select numbers from 1-12. The numbers represent the following owners/ teams:
  1. zora4preside (San Diego Rockets)
  2. buffalo_rob (Los Angeles Lakers)
  3. bsubroncoos (Cincinnati Royals)
  4. dBKC (Detroit Pistons)
  5. albiband0 (San Francisco Warriors)
  6. rmalle04 (New York Knicks)
  7. badboys12345 (Baltimore Bullets)
  8. OldAndy (Seattle SuperSonics)
  9. jcred5 (Boston Celtics)
  10. seapilots (St. Louis Hawks)
  11. HDS1 (Philadelphia 76ers)
  12. jhsukow (Chicago Bulls)
Thank again to everyone for playing!

More lottery drawing explanation (thanks to dBKC):

This comment will never be edited. That will be part of how you can verify that the randomizer was ran once and only once and AFTER this comment was made.

The drawing will be at:
https://defuse.ca/trustedthirdparty.htm?drawingnum=10147

If you click it within less than 24 hours of this post being made, you’ll see the results for lottery #10147 hasn’t been generated yet. If the numbers are already generated by the time you click on it (at least 23+ hours from the time stamp of this comment), you’ll be able to check the time stamp of the lotto to see that it was ran after this comment was made.
