Dale Murphy deserves to be in.
It's hard to say a 2 time MVP, 7 time all-star, 5 time gold glover, 4 time silver slugger doesn't belong in the HOF.
His numbers have been hurt by the numbers from the steroid era.
If you look at where he ranked in the categories that matter, AT THE TIME HE RETIRED, they were pretty impressive.
I wrote an open letter to the Baseball Writers over 20 years ago & I documented his where he ranked in certain categories when he retired, and where he ranks if you take out steroid era guys- whose numbers are artificially enhanced. The steroid era players' numbers make the numbers from the 70s & 80s look pitiful, but those guys should be judged against their peers, not a bunch of Hulk Hogan wannabes. Every offensive stat is inflated. Even if a particular player didn't juice, his numbers still benefited from being surrounded in the batting order by juicers. More runs scored, more RBI opportunities, etc.
i wish i still had that research, but that was a long time ago.
The Hall of FAME should include the biggest names of each era. Dale Murphy was as 'famous' as any player during his time. NO player was more like by the fans. While that alone shouldn't determine who gets into he Hall of FAME, name it something else if it doesn't matter at all.
