bob, not sure exactly what events you're alluding to, but I'd bet they were NOT acts of Christianity, but acts of people claiming to be Christians. Unfortunately, the two are sometimes very, very different.

If a person claiming to be an electrician comes and screws-up the wiring in your whole house, are you going to hold that against all electricians, even though it's clear through the work that the person wasn't an electrician at all?

It is very unfortunate that anyone lies about being a member of any religious organization. All that does is make it easy for miserable, hate-filled people with nothing better in their lives to say "Aha, gotcha. I knew XXX religion was bad.". It's no different than the fringe people rioting and looting that make people say Dems/Libs are violent people, or for people to say all Repubs are elitists. Every group, in every facet of life, is going to have it's so-called followers who reflect badly on the group and send an incorrect message of what that group stands for. Not sure if it's people kidding themselves, or trying to kid others. (Probably some of both.)
