Hockey, that is an excellent point about building rapport with other HBD owners. One of my HBD BFFs (pray4pro) says that exact same thing -- if you build enough rapport with other owners, you can almost anticipate what their needs are and sometimes your needs match theirs and you can easily come together for a kumbaya trade.

I like this, especially the first one.

Point #1 - in Hoops and Gridiron, Work Ethic plays a huge role in development. That *and* potential determine a player's growth. That helps with the more individual nature of player progression.
In HBD, I don't really see an analog to Work Ethic; the closest would be Make Up, but its affects aren't as well known.

What if: Make Up was A. more closely tied with development (like Work Ethic in other games), and B. only known to the owning player?
Maybe a high ADV scouting budget would give a general idea of other player's Make Up, so there was a way to invest in that and make ADV more relevant.
This could work as well, but it have to be HUGE like you said. I don't play the other games, but if potential and work ethic are huge, I think it have to be huge here as well to use this approach. I think something needs to be done. Anything is better than owners not spending a dime on scouting reports, but knowing the studs due to 100 percent accurate current ratings they can see.

On the league schedule page, it would be nice to have the option to see only our game results against a specific opponent or just against the NL or AL.

As a new player to HBD (I'm in my second season) I was fleeced in my first season. Granted it wasn't egregious but it still left me feeling stupid and fairly angry at the owner that fleeced me. And the only reason I realized I was fleeced was because multiple owners messaged me asking what I was doing. Somehow the trade still went through though. And now I know who I'll never trade with again.

I think something that would go a long way is better world policing on trades. I think for veteran owners to reach out to the new guy and start to build a rapport with him but also to understand his logic in the trade before he Accepts or Vetos the trade, might help a bit.

I also saw in another thread about a mentors, this could be a great way for a veteran in another world to take a quick look at the new owners team and give him some quick tips or pointers on what he thinks. I also know there was also a csherwood style thread being built. While I'm not sure a brand new owner would read it or understand it, it's a good way for relatively new owners to understand how roster building could work and things to take into consideration during various parts of the season. I know it helped me quite a bit.

These are just my thoughts from a current newbie. But for the record, even after that trade experience, I love this game and these forums are great to read and learn from. So I thank you all for that!

We’re glad to hear Mborden. Without new blood the game dies. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. If you ever have any questions feel free to sitemail me. Always here to help.

I'd always recommend finding a mentor, even if it's just someone to chat about the game with and get a second perspective.

Lots of new owner tools that were difficult to find, but once found, they are invaluable items to lower the learning curve. I won't post them here, but if any new owner needs a little something to speed up the learning process, sitemail me.

along these lines...it would be nice to see the w/l percentage of remaining opponents, to know how "real" the current standings are, so if two tied teams face future opponents with diverging w/l records it can influence future moves.

It seems players don't rest/recover during the all-star break. To me, this is a "bug" that should be fixed.

Kind of late to the discussion regarding trades, I have resorted to TCing other owners and collectively vetoing several trades of a veteran owner fleecing newer ones. However, that feels cheap and dirty as it can easily be something that can be misused.

Earlier in the thread I suggested a rumors page. Where all players in a proposed trade would be posted as being available (maybe an extension to the the Trade Block). I think this would benefit in world policing as then owners can TC or make world chat comments before the trade goes down. At the very least it will notify the world that the future HOFer is available and hopefully drive the price up .

I love that idea. Most of the times these guys aren't shopping their HOFer players and it's a total shock when they get traded. If people realized they we're getting shopped, I'm sure the new owner would see much better offers, quickly teaching them that their player is more valuable then the fleecing owner is insinuating.

+1 to the trade rumors page.
Also, just thought of something simple that could be added to each trade -- a years of control +/- meter. This might make newer or inexperienced owners think twice before trading that prospect. Every prospect traded will automatically have a ten on the meter for ten years of control given up. The 31 year old pitcher with two years left on his contract would have a 2 years of control rating. The arb1 pitcher would have 7 years of control left, so his rating would be a 7 on the meter. I know veteran owners can find creative ways of evening out the years of control to make the trade appear to be even, but at least it will make the new or inexperienced owner think about the term 'years of control'. I would bet years of control isn't even taken into consideration for some newer or inexperienced HBD players.

This is incorrect. They do rest during the ASB, even if they play in the game.

I hope it's incorrect...but I've got pitchers who weren't part of the ASG not recovering during the break. maybe they partied too hard during the break. I think I saw one of them in the news footage from Miami Beach!

This feature might be a bigger ask...it would be great if there were views/pages/tools for managing multiple teams at once, like "here are the box scores of all your teams from last cycle" or "here are all your guys on the DL from your teams" or "here's your remaining prospect budgets for all teams" or "here's the trade deadline date for all your teams" or "here's which of your teams have incomplete lineups"...these At-a-Glance views would then have links simply taking you to the relevant page in that team/league. This would save a lot of time. There are days/moments for thorough analysis of one of your teams, but also others where you're in "what needs to get done now" mode.

Fantasy Baseball providers (that's YOU ESPN!) need these features too..."hot new free agent? here's which of your leagues he's available in"...always thought a provider could really stand out from the crowd if they provided multi-league views for an owner. Fortunately in fantasy baseball there are some 3rd party tools that help manage multiple teams at once.
