I totally agree with all your points DHOW, I don't like this change at all.

1. Agreed. The update should be from this point forward. Even Knight (which is wrapping up RS2) shouldn’t be affected until next season.

I can’t say I agree with 2 and 3.

it may be that they cant change just one world - this is the sort of thing that should have been announced a couple months in advance so that recruiting could proceed with understanding of the change

do we know whether this applies instantly to a guy who is say a soph in game 10 of his soph season?

so,e folks will be hurt and surprised

no need to cry about it. it is only one recruiting session

Sophomores are fine you don't need to honor the promise, its your ineligible freshmen currently on the roster, when the season rolls over their promises will not be cleared, that's how it technically works.

But what does that mean

Joe Smith in an ineligible. He signs with DI school XYZ after a bunch of effort and after a promise of start and 15 minutes.

He doesnt play as a freshman because he is not eligible. (Different question if he becomes eligible after signing, thats an existing risk case)

What does it mean that when the season rolls over the promises will not be cleared? FR year is over. Do the promises apply to the season in which he is labelled a SOPH - his first season playing? if not, what does the change mean?

Your promises don't clear in-between seasons so in your example, if you promised Joe Smith - 15 minutes and a start you will now have to honor that in Joe's sophomore season.

Joe's, Junior (2nd year of eligibility) he will have no promises to adhere to.

Iba is currently recruiting. I signed an ineligible player on April 14th, and made promises. I might have recruited differently if I'd known those changes were coming. Will players currently subject to recruiting actions (or recruiting actions pre April 15th) be subject to this new change?

thanks for explaining - I was very confused by the statement "sophomores are fine" - you mean guys who are now sophs are fine, but a current FR nonqualifier will have a potentially very surprising status when he becomes a SOPH

I dont happen to have anyone in this situation

BUT, this "patch" changed a long standing understanding of how the game worked. A warning of 6-8 weeks would have been wise. There are no doubt lots of ineligibles out there for whom this will unexpectedly bite as SOPHs

ah, more transfers may arise!! more transfers would be nice

This is all so stupid, and could have easily been avoided. I’ve got a player it affects - no big deal, I’ll honor the promise. But now you’ve got people ****** because you changed the rules on them midstream with no warning. You know you have a very engaged user base. All you needed to do, adlorenz, was put out a message that here’s the change that is coming, here’s how it will work, and here’s when it will start. It would have taken all of 5 min to do the post, and you wouldn’t have had all of these riled up customers. I don’t even get, from a business standpoint, how doing it this way is a savvy business move - unless you enjoy defending yourself and trying to calm people down.
I think it would have been fine had they given notice, but I understand not doing it. Many folks don’t read forums, patch notes, discord, etc. and would have still been surprised. We’re all in the same boat, it affects all coaches the same way (those who have recruited ineligibles in the past season). Just rip the band-aid off.

so much useless junk goes to the conf chat - i guess its really just when every world rolls, which is kinda annoying. i think every patch notes should go in there - seems like they do that sometimes? and other important updates. i feel like most folks read their CCs, its got to be the most visible place (outside of something like the discord banner - haha - i am a fan but let's not make that a habit).

i think the discord is great, but using the CC for vital communication is a valuable tool that has frankly been under-utilized. i don't want to see an endless amount of crap there but announcements about changes absolutely should go there. it makes the game feel more alive to have updates anyway, it can't hurt to advertise that a bit (instead of just advertising every d3 world... every season... forever!)

i definitely would like to see something like this get a little forewarning, but i think the new guys are juggling a lot across a lot of games and i don't think its worth getting bent out of shape over. its a fine line anyway, mostly i don't think they need to forewarn, as everybody plans on the status quo and any change of substance can call for things done differently in hindsight. i think this is an obvious one though. any other changes to promises that materially affect expectations going forward should really be announced IMO - i just mean like people find out about it before they recruit the next guy, not a month after, don't need some great forewarning. *especially* if they go the 'keep promises for 4 years' route.

“*especially* if they go the 'keep promises for 4 years' route.”

Right, that will get a TON of complaints either way; I don’t even know if there’s a lot of value to announcing that beforehand, other than just giving people a place to vent about it. (For the record, I still don’t like that change for gameplay, but I’ll adjust). So even there, I kind of see some merit to the idea of just let everybody adjust together and deal with it at the same time.

Chaos is a ladder.
