Keeping a PH off the field Topic

So here is the situation:

You have a poor fielding OF with a great bat who is your primary pinch hitter. If he pitch hits for a non outfielder, he takes his AB and sits down and the manager puts another player in the game who can actually field.

However, if he pinch hits for another outfielder, he always stays in the game and plays in the field.

How do I prevent this? I tried taking him off the defensive replacement depth chart, no luck.

Is there a player listed at each position as a defensive replacement for him to come out of the game? If so, are they available, not below their rest threshold?

99% sure it's impossible to prevent this. Aggressive defensive replacement settings is the only way to limit it but that only works when your team is ahead to start the inning on defense.

@DoctorKZ: Yes I have my defensive subs fully filled out with the players I want and he is not included:

@Contrarian: It's a DH League so not sure if there would be double switches. I removed him from the player rest, we will see what that does. See above for my defensive replacements. I want him pinch hitting frequently, it's 1985 Cesar Cedeno if you were wondering, so any key situation I want him at the plate unless one of my studs is up.

@06gsp: My defensive sub settings are already dialed up

Looks like the only thing I can change that makes sense would be the player rest. I will try that and let you all know how that goes.

Nope he still went into CF after pinch hitting.
The game was tied so there was no defensive or rest setting that would have helped.

Any other ideas?

I’d send a ticket in. If the great minds above couldn’t fix it, that’s the last place I’d look

In the advanced settings, you could uncheck the PH box for each of your outfielders.

Of course I could, but that defeats the purpose of having a PH for these situations.
I want him to take his AB and then sit down and let a real OFer take the field.

When he pinch hits for the SS it works, the back up IF goes in. When he pinch hits for the CF, he takes his D- glove out to CF, leaving the A+ reserve on the bench. There is just no reason this should happen or that this can't at least be adjusted.

Here is one, they are pretty much all the same. He pinch hits for Mays and stays in CF. If he pinch hits for one of the IFs he goes out and Gil McDougald comes in.

— What is your defensive replacement condition set to? (i.e. use defensive replacements if ahead by X runs in the Y inning... what values are you using for X and Y?)
5/7 I've used 4/7 before and same issue.

— Does this problem happen when the def replacement conditions are met? If you have specific examples of that, send in a ticket and reference them. And can you post the link to a couple of those box scores so we can examine them?
I haven't noticed if it does or not, but i'll keep my eyes open.

— Does this problem happen when you are ahead, but the defensive replacement conditions are not met? If so, have you tried changing the defensive replacement conditions to be more aggressive? (i.e earlier and with a smaller lead?)

To my knowledge, no, I am *fairly* certain with defensive replacement settings met they put in a defensive sub.

— If this problem happens when you are tied or behind, do you really WANT Cedeno to be replaced? He’s like the very best offensive player in SLB... wouldn’t you rather keep his bat in the game and accept the defensive tradeoff under those circumstances? I know I would.

You make a good point that maybe I don't want him replaced, but at least put him in LF and let Mantle play CF. If we get the lead I certainly wouldn't want him staying in, particularly if he's unlikely to get another AB anyway.

Yes normally I'd have them lighter, but this is a heavy offensive league (almost 6.5 average), and I'm in a hitters park, 5 run lead is far from a sure thing.

Yes D+, I thought he was D- (only looking at/care about range), not that it really changes anything with regards to what I was trying to do.

I actually got a different response than expected:

From Adam:

"I had no idea this was an issue and thank you for bringing it up. I will have to look into it, it probably will mean digging into the sim engine which is something Chris and I were avoiding until we got a little more comfortable, but I can check and see how feasible this is."

So maybe in the future we'll have the option to keep poor fielders off the field.

In a 255Mil, I often use Cedeno in CF a whole game against a LH for 23 Ruth. Can't say I remember him costing a game defensively.
