Corbin Burnes article in NYT: All Strikeouts and No Walks

I see from the Brewers-Cardinals boxscore that Burnes has just broken the record for most strikeouts without a walk to start a season (previously held by Kenley Jansen). As of this moment he's got 54 K's, 0 BB. Will post a clip later if I can find one.

Tony's lack of support for his players is absolutely ridiculous and if his comments about him having an office and the players having a locker is so out of touch. The "locker players" should stay at their lockers until TLR no longer has an office imo.

I'm mostly on the side of the youngsters, but I think they're crapping a little too heartily all over La Russa.

I think Carlos Gomez (of all people) said it well:

“No one now, in 2021, in this modern generation, should get upset about a home run hit on a 3-0 pitch,” Gomez said. “It’s not easy to do. If you want to gift me a home run at 3-0 throwing 40 miles an hour, I’m going to take it.”

Gomez said that if he was facing a respected veteran pitcher in a blowout, like Clayton Kershaw or C.C. Sabathia, he wouldn’t swing at a 3-0 pitch. But if it was a position player, all bets are off — a sentiment Lynn also expressed.

Yes, I saw that Pirate play. Couple of observations. Why didn't the catcher and all his teammates yell at the First baseman to go back and tag 1B? There was 2 outs. And what has that guy said to the media?

Yeah, plenty of blame to go around, although the first basemen is clearly at the front of the line.

Instead of simply backing up to step on first base, Craig ran with Baez all the way back to the plate and then flipped the ball to the catcher as the Cubs' Willson Contreras sprinted for home. Contreras beat the tag, and then two errant throws allowed Baez to reach second base. Baez would score on a single one batter later.
