I don't know where Doug got this idea, but saying that crime isn't necessarily caused by defunding the police isn't the same as not caring about deaths at all. The **** is Doug doing about the problem? What is the Republican Party doing about it?

You all need to learn the difference between correlation and causation. It could be true that defunding=higher crime rates (ONCE AGAIN I DIDN'T SUPPORT IT LAST SUMMER AND YOU CAN GO BACK AND CHECK TO SEE IF YOU WANT) but that hasn't been proven. You need some sort of a control group for that.

That's because you have an agenda.

Now let's say...you have an agenda and I have an agenda but our two agendas are different.

Let's also say my agenda no longer feels comfortable and wants to be more like your agenda.

Can my agenda transgenda to become your agenda?

I’d like to know how many police departments and which lost money from a direct response to “ defunding “ and what part of the police budgets in those localities was relieved. In other words were police taken off the street anywhere and was actual law enforcement affected by budget changes.

It's just one of those funny coincidences. Apparently a whole lot of people are dying for no good reason.

Where are all the riots and looting aimed at stopping the THOUSANDS of black-on-black shootings that happen in this Country every year?

And I could easily explain the crime surge by pointing out that COVID is ending, people are back on the street, and for many, their economic conditions are way worse.

If crime is rising everywhere, even in cities with large police budgets, you can't pin the crime surge on defunding, right?

Sigh. I cannot believe that I have to explain this.

The purpose of protesting/even rioting for changes to policing is that policing, in theory, should be accountable to the people - it can be easily changed through policy and signs of solidarity by the community should, in theory, work towards change. And the justification for riots (even though I am opposed to them) is that it draws more attention to the problem and acts to change authority (in this analogy, burning a cop car is like the Boston Tea Party - you hurt an oppressor to change the system).

Meanwhile, criminals who kill others are NOT accountable to the public. You could protest for policy changes, sure. I would support that. But these are two fundamentally different problems.

Both are important, but the means by which change is achieved are different. Obviously.

Tldr, we hold cops to a higher standard than criminals. Shocking, I know.

I would never compare police officers to dogs.
Disgusting.

the problem is recruiting and screening.....systemic lack of accountability nation wide and more thorough training.
