The Newsweek article concludes with
Since the publication of this article, a National Geographic spokesperson has told Newsweek the book was removed from the websites because it went on pre-sale prematurely.
So, I mean, seems like a nothingburger to me.
While I cannot read the other article in full (requires a subscription), I can already guess what it would contain. Fauci never supports the lab leak theory in the emails. Yes, people took the theory seriously. There was a lack of evidence in the theory, so it was largely dismissed. Recently, we got a couple of bits of circumstantial evidence that make the theory plausible again (but while no means confirming it).
There's nothing controversial about this. We should expect opinions and mindsets to change with new evidence.
As for the article itself, it's laughably biased, to the point that I could see it appearing on college courses in media literacy on how to understand bias in reporting (hence why it's in the WSJ OPINION section, which strangely is the only outlet you seem to think is unbiased.. anyway). Just in the parts I could see, the author laughs off the idea that Fauci was uncomfortable being in the limelight at the beginning of the pandemic, something that is clearly seen in the emails. To laugh about the idea of news reporting on a very obvious takeaway from the emails is a clear sign of bad faith and bias.
