Here is an example that tells me that everything we've believed about minutes promised, coinciding with games in which players foul out is totally incorrect.

As a community, I believe we've had the understanding that in games in which a player fouls out, if they hit the promised minutes mark, then the game counts towards reaching the promise. And if they foul out without reaching the promise, it doesn't hurt. But check this out...

This guy was promised 20 minutes and just complained after 8 games, after a total average of 17.9 minutes. The email he sent said he's ****** about only playing 17 minutes (that *** hole don't even consider he's almost at 18 really but that's beside the point!)

So in games he DIDN'T foul out, he played 21, 23, 12, and 22 minutes. For a total of 78/80 minutes. Not something that would create a complaint. In the games he DID foul out in, he played 17, 15, 17, and 16.

Those foul out games definitely counted, or he wouldn't be complaining.

This to me is very noteworthy, as it goes against everything we've assumed here regarding this situation.

Thoughts?

Being that he averaged 19.5 minutes in 75% of games he didn’t foul out, could this be the reason? (Thought I saw 80% was ok)

Correct. Around 80% is generally ok. Sometimes a tad under that can still trigger a complaint but it's pretty rare. But 78/80 minutes is NOT a example of one of those rare times. That has never gotten a complaint.

Which is why i feel like foul out games count, in some manner. Whether that's a new thing. Or whether it's been that way all along and we've misunderstood that, I do not know

the original posts contains a misunderstanding. i used to espouse that misunderstanding too - many, many times - it was the best knowledge of the community. seble clarified a little while back that the reality was more complex.

i am not sure i remember what he said fully correctly; promises have changed so many times and i don't have the iron grip on random HD facts that i once had. anyway i think this is it - foul out games count towards the total before a complaint, regardless of whether they help or hurt you. after the complaint, only games that are in your favor are counted in the 'are you keeping the promise now?' logic. here comes the part i'm least sure about - but i believe that when a player decides whether to leave or not at the end of the season - the foul out logic is applied to *all* games, whether before or after the complaint (or whether there was or was not a complaint)

there was a forum thread in which someone posted basically the same example you did dogg, and i think a few folks including myself confirmed that was not the expected behavior as it was described to us. i don't think i sent a ticket, but i think someone else did, and seble might have even popped in the thread to give the verdict? i got the impression he may have just found out at the same time as us, that the logic was not as he previously explained - i feel like he felt like he had a duty to correct, the way he was explaining it...

i don't know when or where that was... i do think it is since i returned to the game, whenever that was. within 2 years? not sure how long i've been back, but i was gone a little over 3 years from when 3.0 came out, whatever that means...

Well that’s interesting, I’ve been operating off of the logic that it counts towards if they foul out, but if they foul out and don’t meet the minutes promised, you get a mulligan

Actually, Topp and Gill, I appreciate your efforts but until Chap blesses anything, I’m ambivalent

I had always believed that fouled out games don't count at all (help or hurt) until I saw someone say that they could still help you. I think that was within the past year or so.

I also thought it was the same with OT games, but now I don't know what to think haha.

I had a guy once who complained then followed up that he was happy again with no further complaints but still left at the end of the season
