institutional memory: dynamic pricing was attempted in the past - it was bad

Please do not bring dynamic pricing to basketball. I used to play a lot of baseball here and quit when dynamic pricing was introduced.

Dont love the idea of a live chat , there has been problems with cheaters in the past and with real time communication there could be some serious issues there.

Dynamic pricing as it was instituted originally wasnt great. But that was also due to the previous admin kinda just ignoring it and not updating it. The new system should be much better and should be updated more frequently with players going up and down more consistently. A lot of feedback was given on the types of leagues that count towards player uses. For ex. Baseball has a lot of single season progressives that started in 1969 due to the expansion era. Because of that, a lot of 69-79 players are priced higher than they should be based on quality. You also had extremely high cap leagues that would draft all the best value players and push their data up, which then made them unusable for lower caps.

TLDR; I’m confident the new team will enact Dynamic pricing in a better way than previous

{Sam Elliot voice}: I been round these parts a long time, I've heard lots of 'promises'

if baseball wants it let 'em have it - as far as I can tell no one from the NBAsim is asking for this

You may be right with that. I’m not familiar with the NBA sim at all, I’d ask though- are most leagues filled with teams running all the same cookies? Or are teams still diverse?

I know that was a big part of the baseball DP. Wasn’t necessarily requested, but there were plenty of complaints about all the cookie cutter teams and DP was the solution to that.

the way I think of it is this - behind all the What If' window dressing what we are actually doing is running stat tables through a statistical simulation engine

I think what you mean by cookies equates to fielding whichever guys best express whatever the current most successful exploit of that engine might be

In the NBAsim right now the dominant model is 'assist % stacking' - cosmetically that looks like cloned Stocktons w Magic and Lebron downshifted into forwards and a Giannis or Jokic at center - what it really means though is you are fielding ca. 170 assist percentage points cumulative across your 5 positions (and effectively that is all that it means - I can get more or less the same results w 5 completely other guys)

what it does is drive FG% so high that none of the other player stats have the impact they are meant to &/or are valued at (this sports sim team-building stuff all ultimately winds up being an exercise in market economics just like in real life I guess) - the exploit undermines market value of all the other stats and so everyone has to draft the same way to compete

and so right now in the NBAsim world, everyone is upset about clones and Stocktons and clones of Stocktons etc but making Stockton more expensive doesn't address the real underlying issue which is that there should be a ceiling on stacked assist % - address that and we can all go back to having multiple different ways to win (at least until the next smart somebody comes along with the next exploit)

if all the stats were balanced and valued appropriate to their impact on outcomes and assuming any exploits were redressed consistently by admin we wouldn't need dynamic pricing

AND not only won't dynamic pricing address the underlying issues with cookies it will just F up the market valuation situation further and it will still require the kind of admin activism I have only ever seen promised and never seen produced

tl/dr? at least as far as the NBAsim is concerned just cap the assist % boost at 100% and we can move on to other things without the dynamic pricing, thanks anyway

Great to hear the communication about plans for WIS and, in particular, HBD. As someone who uses a laptop 99.9% of the time, will these features (chat, etc.) be in the desktop version of the game? One small concern I would have is the elimination of sitemail. HBD commissioners use this to recruit new players. Just wondering how that translates to the planned updates.

1. thanks for the effort!

2. thanks for this communication!! please continue to let us know, we love it

3. please give us some tidbits about the planned HD changes for RS2

4. I have played most of the WIS games, but have been HD only for years - may go back and try some of my old faves.......thanks!

That's one hell of an impression. Sam really sold your point. I'd love to hear this with Peter Falk as Columbo. You're Kevin Pollack, right?
8/6/2021 9:49 PM
that's right, but my Falk impression is only really good in person because I have to do the eye thing to make it work

I’m a big fan of the possibility of an app. What I’d like to see (and y’all tell me if this is unrealistic) is Sim LIVE coming back and being a main feature on said app. That way we can sell it as a game on the App Store, with people managing and simming real teams like the 97 Yanks, and them possibly seeing the Custom teams us users build, and possibly heading over here to join an OL or Theme League.
Yes! Live will certainly be returning. Including casual quick matches and new game modes!
Yas!

  1. New Game Rewrites (starting dec 2021)
We will be announcing more details in the coming weeks, in terms of order of precedence of game rewrites and why

Existing Game Features: (2-3 updates per game that are major)

Hardball Dynasty
  1. Injury Updates (Fixes transparency between budget allocation and injury prevention)

First, thank you for the communication and I look forward to the updates and progress of the game! Also, good luck to Adam and thank you your time at WIS.

I hope the INJURY UPDATE also addresses the major issues with when injuries happen in the season and the non-consistency with recovery. For me, this has become the major problem in HBD. In real life, prospects getting a major injury does not mean they don't develop fully. And their shouldn't be a difference in a Player A with a major injury getting hurt and recovering in the offseason or Player B with the same injury recovering the following season.

Again, thank you for your work, your time, and the progress!
+1

There needs to be major refinement and nuance added to the Hoops Dynasty job stuff. If its the initial proposal, and no further thought, then I am out.
