Thought You Guys Told Me Topic

I thought all my Liberal friends here told me not to worry about the escalating gas prices. They were nothing important. Apparently, the Biden administration has at least a little better grasp of reality and is worried about them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden's administration is moving at home and abroad to try to address concerns about rising energy prices slowing the nation's recovery from the pandemic-induced recession.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan on Wednesday called on the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to move faster to restore global supply of petroleum to pre-pandemic levels, and the White House asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the domestic gasoline market for any anti-competitive behavior that could be increasing prices.

The joint actions come as the administration is increasingly sensitive to rising prices across the economy as it faces both political and policy pressure from inflation.

“Higher gasoline costs, if left unchecked, risk harming the ongoing global recovery," Sullivan said in a statement. He said the administration was pressuring OPEC and producers allied with the cartel to more quickly undo the production cuts put in place at the start of the pandemic.

Biden's National Economic Council director, Brian Deese, asked the FTC head, Lina Khan, to “monitor the U.S. gasoline market and address any illegal conduct that might be contributing to price increases for consumers at the pump.” The FTC is an independent agency and may take advice, but not direction, from the White House.

Wednesday’s report from the Labor Department showed that consumer prices jumped 0.5% from June to July, down from the previous monthly increase of 0.9%. They have increased a substantial 5.4% compared with a year earlier, erasing much of the benefit to workers from higher pay. To see more, use link.

Biden made sure there's gonna be plenty of oil. He opened up another pipeline. In Russia.

No point in hating in Biden. They ELECTED him.. although the integrity of that election was imo, compromised. The media will not give us the true picture of him.. they never do.. So my guess is that he is either a puppet, or a marxist in his world view, and he will make the US dependent on foreign oil.

I see these guys as killing the goose that lays the Golden Eggs. That's what communism, marxism, socialism is all about. Power and control//and the Communist News Network is pushing it like candy.

The devil seeks to control the world, and that it's people will worship him.. This will be through big global government

The latest fear mongering tactic? I seen it today. The UN is declaring a RED ALERT for the whole world. Great swelling words that will manipulate the naiive, and that means 80% of the sheeple. There is no man made warming, but the summer out West is the driest and hottest one I have seen in 75 years. In other parts of the world, there is flooding and chaos.

My advice? Turn off CNN, and all news networks for a week and go for a race walk-jog trot every day. Half an hour. and when you do, sing your favorite songs. It is good for the heart

I said SING.. laugh at that all you want, but it beats sitting on the keyboard all day

The real meltdown isn't climate, but freedoms. Look for a world wide 'CLIMATE LOCKDOWN' in the near future.

The world has gone insane

Holy ****, how is your grasp on reality this bad? You can go back and read the posts. No one argued that gas prices weren't rising. We just claimed that it was a natural response to the pandemic, not because of Biden. As I stated in a post from a couple months ago, the reason why prices rose is because many OPEC countries reduced production of oil with lowered demand during the pandemic. Once demand rose, increased production was slow to follow. What happens when we have more demand and less production? PRICES RISE! Hence why Biden is calling for OPEC countries "to move faster to restore global supply of petroleum to pre-pandemic levels."

Genuinely, are you OK? Do you have some sort of memory loss where you forget the arguments that other people make and swap in strawmanned versions?

If you don't believe me, go back and read the posts at the time. I'm making the same argument now as I did then.

If we are energy independent why would we care what OPEC does?

Because the cost of a barrel of oil is based on INTERNATIONAL trading. We don't dictate to the oil corporations what they can sell their product for and it's based on their COST of supply, which is (again) international.

DUH!!
I'm just an old coot from the hill country of Arizona and I get that. I though you were an investment banker or something.......... how can you not understand basic supply and demand?

Oh yeah. Bias and politics.

We aren't energy independent. We weren't under Trump. OPEC countries have oil reserves that dwarf ours.

If we were forced to only rely on our own oil, we would run out in 36 days. Look it up.

You are wrong. If we produce more supply then the prices for everyone drops. You are an old coot. We are producing less cause of Biden.

You have gone insane. Excellent. US and Canada with fracking would easily be energy independent.
