Did you see Biden's interview with George Snuffleupagus? He didn't even know what day it was.

Biden's speech Monday was one of the worst I've ever seen from a politician. He literally didn't care about the situation in Afghanistan that he created.
Biden CREATED the situation in Afghanistan?
He created the evacuation mess.

Plus, as Vice President for 8 years, did nothing to improve the situation in Afghanistan.
He didn't CREATE the evacuation mess. The problem is that if the US had rushed to evacuate as many people as possible at the beginning, Biden would have been blamed for the Taliban taking power. I.E. "you gave up the war before it was over." It seems like this was an intel failure. Part of that is on Biden. But it's nuanced.

Just pinning the situation on "Biden bad" is ridiculous. And yes, we should have pulled out of Afghanistan long ago. I would put the same on Trump. And Obama. And Bush. And Reagan for funding the Taliban.

Oh, and also: we should be accepting as many Afghani refugees as possible. Anything less is simply unacceptable. Hopefully we can all agree on that.

The airport is secure and there hasn’t been an American casualty so far - knock on wood.

I think it’s getting a little overblown that “Biden blew this.”

A more pertinent question might be where did the president of Afghanistan get $169m or whatever it was that he ran off with in the middle of the night after saying a month ago that Afghanistan would never surrender to the Taliban.

Agree with all of this however the Reagan funded the Taliban but is incorrect, there’s more nuance involved there and I wouldn’t say Reagan funded them.

"Just pinning the situation on "Biden bad" is ridiculous."

Biden is an unmitigated ******* disaster. Is that better?

(Looks at stock market despite 30% of republicans refusing to get vaccinated.) Ok.

eta: for the record, based on the Taliban bribing pretty much every important Afghan official and military member, this was always going to go down like this when we left. So if you think there was a way to work around that with leaving, say how. Or if you think we should’ve stayed, say that.

But “Biden blew it,” without any talk of the Afghan army handing over their guns and all but throwing a parade or the Afghan president hightailing it out of town, and no mention of the secured airport or zero American casualties, tells me all I need to know about your opinion.

ps: and do you agree with tang about accepting as many Afghan refugees as we can?

Well, yeah, the Taliban didn't exist under Reagan, but Reagan gave money to the Mujahedin, and many of those fighters later created the Taliban.

So we did fund the Taliban, just not directly.

I think it’s a stretch, agree to disagree.

No way should "pulling out of Afghanistan" have been 100%.
We should have left behind a small group to help support and definitely shouldn't have pulled air strike capability/support.

Obviously it was never going to be kumbaya over there, but completely abandoning Afghanistan was a TERRIBLE "plan".
8/19/2021 9:59 PM
Wow, so you're saying that Trump locked Biden into a terrible plan?

Right now America has to put political differences aside. THE highest priority is getting our fellow citizens and
our Afghan friends out of the place alive. If it takes bringing in specialist such as Army Rangers so be it. These
past few days have changed everything. The situation is a disaster but we've survived disasters before.
If Americans are killed and/or held as hostages circa 1979 all of are other problems such as global warming,
pandemic, homeless, addiction will become secondary issues at best.
If Biden doesn't get our people home his political goose is cooked and most likely Democrats will be as well.
The only thing Biden/Harris have done so far is point fingers of blame and hide. Hell even George couldn't
make him look good. I'm praying for those in harms way and hope we can overcome our current situation.
Not for the sake of our political leaders but for this country. A full scale modern day war is too dreadful to contemplate.

Start to finish, this is not all on Biden. This has been an ongoing mess, that we insist on limited scale skirmishes, poorly executed nation building. But Joe's lack of a sensible exit strategy is inexcusable...

Please tell me why the British have to be the ones rescuing Americans? We look pitifully weak.

Why are we the ones that should be taking in refugees? So they vote Democrat?
8/20/2021 11:13 AM
um...does this sound familiar?
" Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

1) what Wylie said.
2) because I was responding to the OP who said “the highest priority is getting Americans and our Afghan friends out alive,” which I agree with.
3) so you think Biden is to blame for all of this, despite, again, not mentioning the Afghan army handing over their guns and their president fleeing with somehow $169m, and you don’t care about the refugees? Uh huh.
