Bruce Hornsby lives in Williamsburg, VA (or did 20 years ago) and showed up at a law school bar where I was with some friends. One guy went to the juke box and played “That’s Just The Way It Is” 5 straight times to be funny. After the third one started, Bruce stood up and asked who did it - my friend raised his hand sheepishly and Bruce bought our table drinks for the rest of the night. Such a class move when he was dealing with some drunk morons…

That's a fantastic story. I met the guy sitting on a bench across from the Calvin Theater in Northampton MA. I asked "Aren't you that keyboard player from the Grateful Dead?" He visibly laughed and never lifted his eyes from the newspaper he was reading.

I've seen Bruce Hornsby more times than I can count. He's brilliant, in my opinion. I like all the hits, but my favorite song is not a hit, "Swan Song", and all the instrumentals that it spawned, Song A, Song B, Song C, Song D, Song E, and especially Song F. Plus, there's that whole Grateful Dead period. Listen to "Lady with a Fan" off the "Here Come the Noisemakers" record if you want to be amazed.
