When switching offense/defense, does playing the new set(s) increase the rate at which IQ improves? Or are you better off playing the old O/D for a season while players just practice the new sets?

playing a set does not increase the rate at which IQ improves.

when i change sets i usually play the old one for a season, seems to smooth the bumps out considerably.

I remember when I switched from Fastbreak to Flex and from Press to Man I had a couple of seasons of growing pains.

Same, but I may switch over to the new at CT time, especially against a tough opponent. Throwing a different set at an opponent when they might not expect it can be an advantage.

Anyone have a theory on what I regard as the long standing mystery of IQ improving a teeny bit in sets one does not practice?

I’ve never noticed that, but then I’ve also never looked at it or tracked it before either.

But if that’s happening, then my theory would be that it’s based on the sets your opponents are playing in games (?).

Not sure on why the improvement in sets you don't practice.

But depending on the individual players ability to improve, the bump to D- is usually later in the soph season.

This has been going on for years. But I'm not sure if it's linked to opponent sets, but I think that was the admin answer when this first was asked.
Seems to me, I've had players improve against sets that I rarely played against.

i think seble came out at some point and said this was not related to what you or your opponents play, just a quirk of the system. i don't really remember what he said except that it seemed pretty inconsequential (but i do remember he ruled out our guess about the opponent's set somehow being involved). i figure (this is just my own guess) that what is happening is basically similar to how a 70 work ethic player will still grow on 0 practice for per/lp. i have loosely meant to watch some 1 WE / low gpa guys to see how delayed their IQ was compared to high WE / high gpa guys, in terms of the non-practiced sets. we know PT doesn't impact IQ growth, so i am just figuring like, with a 2.0 hs gpa and 0/1 work ethic, your growth rate is probably 0, and then everyone else is slightly above that?
