I think if you put the accent over the e like you'd see in Spanish you'll make it past programs that censor slurs on forums

It is ridiculous that every ballplayer named Dick could be censored. A name is a name, not a punchline.

If someone does something offensive, deal with that without altering the database. F***ing stupid.

I always found it funny when **** Hernandez name was censored, but I suppose some nicknames, especially older ones could be thought offensive.

But today Jimmy ***** was censored. (Dykess)—s

It is his last name.

Fire the idiot that thought this was necessary !!!
You've got to be kidding me. Is this for real in SLB??? I just did a search for that player in the draft center and I was able to find him.

If this is true, then things have gone too far. That is the player's last name, not some anachronistic nickname.

Are there demands coming from some special interest group outraged by the last name of a historical MLB player? Doubtful.

I have near and dear friends who are part of the community in question, who I'm guessing from hearing their own non-PC language, would agree that this is absurd.

The profanity filter is something that is set by each user. So it is your choice how much profanity or offensive content you want to see. It is opt out not opt in, but in forums click "my forums" and toggle profanity filter to on, or off. This is what I assume you are referring to if some **** (asterisk) are showing in place of words. There have been no updates to this filter or special interest groups pushing for this (as suggested), it has existed since this iteration of the forums was created many many years ago. There is a dictionary of profanities taken from a public database at that time. Anytime any of those words are found in text (even inside another word) it is replaced with ***** if your filter is enabled personally.

-Chris

hahahaha, i'd be pretty embarrassed if I'd stated in public this was the result of creeping authoritarianism

Okay, that makes more sense to me, thanks.

I'm sure that some will misinterpret my comment as shrieking about creeping authoritarianism, or try to mistakenly label me as a bigot. I am all for maintaining a standard of respect for all individuals and groups; it's just that on the flip side I become wary if word-policing seems to go too far. There is such a thing as balance. If the profanity filters are set by each user, I guess that helps sort out a lot of details.

Again I would like to point out that I’m not talking about words, I’m talking about someone’s actual name. Why would any kind of filter be censoring that?
2/28/2022 11:25 AM
because the program just sees the slur and doesn't know the context

I'll just delete my little commentary since it doesn't seem to apply in this setting...

I find it hilarious that anyone thinks they have a right to dictate what other people should or should not be offended by. Talk about "privilege" in its purest form. And the surest sign that ANYONE is a bigot is when they use a sentence like "I have friends who are..." as though that somehow exonerates them.
I find it hilarious that a total stranger thinks they know me enough to mis-label me as a bigot, based on one internet forum comment, despite having never met me.

Unfortunately, there are some who feel their superior knowledge of WIS SLB equates to superior knowledge of character and virtue.
