FYI - I have been getting rosters sent to me. Nothing jumped out at me at first glance (with respect to the spirit of the theme), but I will spend some time copying the rosters into my spreadsheet so I can validate the all the rules were followed.

REMEMBER to use "RP" when searching your relief pitchers. There will be no low-inning SPs accepted in the RP buckets.

As an example of me trying to keep with the spirit of the theme, my KC roster includes Paul Splittorf and does not include David Cone. Clearly Cone offers a much better season but was only in KC for 2 years. Splittorf just screams KC!

Yep - you get it. There will be lesser talented pitchers each in group. My comment about "this is not a screw your neighbor league" was to prevent folks from picking crappy years of stud players. You don't have to pick the absolute best year (i.e., 94 or 95 Maddux), but don't pick an average of below average year either (i.e., don't select 2002 Maddux).

Almost every bucket will have it's share of studs, good players and mediocre players. (i.e., a mediocre player would be like Frank Viola's best year, 1988).

Likewise, we went mostly 'old school' from my early Dodger days...

Koufax, Drysdale, Sutton, Fernando(mania), and '88 Orel...

Had to have '88 Gibson (greatest HR in WS history!), and the 'Penguin' over Beltre, and M Wills...

Lotsa great memories for me...A quick two;

1) Back in the day, the SP in the 1st gm away, would fly ahead of the team...Drysdale did that once...When he got off the plane, sports writers were waiting...They informed him that Sandy had pitched a no-hitter that day...Don's only Q; "Did he win"??? Dodgers rarely scored many runs in those days...

2) My 71 yr old memory might be a tad rusty on this one...The HATED Giants were in town...I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Friday/Saturday gms...On Friday night Drysdale pitches a gem, and the Dodgers win 2-1...Saturday night it was Sandy's turn...All he did was throw a no-no (8-0?)...Best two days of a kid's life...

I just added this to the rules on page 1.

*** END OF DRAFT ISSUE ***
After thinking this through a little bit, I believe that it may be possible to get to a point late in the draft where you need a player from a bucket and all the available players left in the bucket are from franchises that you already have rostered. This is a problem. I will set up some contingency plans for this, including combining some of the lesser buckets and also allowing for a <300K replacement if you get stuck. You should make EVERY EFFORT to AVOID this issue from happening. For example, if there are only five full-time 1B left and four of those players play for franchises that you already have, then you should be grabbing the one remaining 1B that fits into your roster, even if it's not the best pick at the time.

I was wondering iffn you were gonna get around to that conclusion...Don't see how it isn't gonna happen...

Doesn’t really matter but give me the Tigers

Things I can do to help alleviate this issue. It will still happen but hopefully, not as often.

(1) Combine the four "backup hitter" buckets into one bigger bucket.
(2) Combine the six relief pitching buckets into 2 or 3 bigger RP buckets.
(3) Possibly combine the five starting pitching buckets into 2 or 3 SP buckets.

Penalty for getting stuck in a situation where you can't draft a legal player: Must use a "replacement" <300K player from the franchise you need.

The 25th Round Expansion Bucket will have a decent number of hitters available to help if you get penalized with a 300K player.

Not to get overly complicated, but you may want to count the "replacement" player's salary at $5m or $10m or something, otherwise it may be strategic to be forced into a $300k player for draft position
