It’s should have been Cleveland Spiders
Cleveland Orangeskins, in honor of the poor guy who got the last election stolen from him.

One from a few years ago, 9 out of 10 didn't object to the Redskin mascot name

Some Nancy do-gooder politician felt it would be a good idea to not offend some Native Americans by changing the team names, although few objected to the names in the first place. Perhaps one day we emerge from the woke fog to wonder what the hell we were thinking...As I stated earlier, I won't bring my personal thoughts into this...
“The dictionary defines the term “redskins” as a racial slur, which should shut down any debate. Several Native organizations and tribes have petitioned the Washington Redskins to change their name.”

Wasnt just some politician. multiple tribes petitioned to have the name changed.

Obviously most KC Chiefs and Atlanta Braves fans that attend games don't seem to mind their team name...or the Chop...

The PC community pressures every entity that they take issue with. It's bigger than mascots...

if a team called itself the Whiteskins, i would not be offended

i would laugh though, because that we be quite the countertrend stroke

i wonder what the results would be if a legitimate pollster sampled the opinions of people who identify as white

I really don’t care what nicknames teams used. However I think the Washington FT made a poor choice. Some members of the Philly media are already calling them the Washington Commies

Besides, weren't the Commodores a singing group or something?

Nothing is more snowflaky than people who are offended that a dated racist stereotype is being taken away from them....
I get Redskins - it's an obvious slur. The term "Indian" is not racist though. Some native groups identify themselves as American Indians.

I don't have an issue with getting rid of outdated stereotypes, but it does seem there's an issue in society today with people getting massively offended on behalf of others. I feel like we see many cases where people get outraged about something because it offends a segment of society, when people in that segment of society are largely saying "I don't find that offensive".

With regards to Indians, it sure felt like there was more outrage from non-Native Americans than from Native American groups.

Nice to see input on what could be a controversial subject.

It was not my intent to ruffle feathers, but rather an honest curiosity as to how they come up with these names.

You'd think that with such a popular subject (Hometeam nicknames; many people identify, relate to and adopt as identity affirming) the franchises make a greater effort to come up with better names. Commodores? Guardians? Look no further than the minor leagues for cool, topical names. Storm Chasers, Mud Hens, Isotopes eg.

It's Commanders, not Commodores.

Still not a great name choice though.

I still remember my Commodore 64. I bought it in high school, I think in 1983. Had it for 13 years or so, and it was still working when I finally ditched it for an upgrade. Primitive, but built to last!
